Antique Style Shopkeepers Triple Bell ~ Brass Store Doorbell

I acquired this as a prop for a high school musical production (West Side Story). It served its purpose quite well, to establish authenticity for an opening and closing door in Doc's Drugstore. It definitely enhanced the scenes that featured that prop. It could've been a little louder, but OTOH its volume was probably just sufficient to fill the dead space in the scene and might've been distracting if much louder. (We ended up mounting it above the door frame, so the opening and closing door would smack the weighted fob. I suspect that's the original intent of the design, but it could also be mounted on the door itself. That option was inferior for our purpose because our door was hollow-core and anchoring it would've required extra steps, for which we didn't have time during final set building stages.) I wasn't interested in the look of the item, but I must say it exceeded my expectations. It's an attractive and very well built set of bells. I took other reviewers' advice and used loctite on the decorative nut that holds the thing together. This made it very sturdy indeed. I would recommend this item without hesitation for anyone seeking a shopkeeper's bell.

I purchased this door chime for my sister and a friend. The bells, chains, and mounting piece are exactly as shown and over-all very well made. The bells don't have little balls inside [:* which makes a softer chiming created by the swing of the central chain between bells as the door moves. The box doesn't come with instructions but: I've been told the best place to hang the chime is on the inside of a door near the top corner where the door meets the frame (but not above the door on the frame). The bell part can be unscrewed from the door mount piece first for easier/balanced installation. If installing on a metal door, 1) use thin heavy-duty double sided sticky mounting tape behind the part that screws to the door; 2) mark the screw holes; 3) drill (or tap with a nail) two holes a little bit smaller than the ones on the door mount piece; 3) use metal "tapping" screws, roofing screws, or brass "star" screws that are wiped with a tiny bit of clear adhesive of caulking first. And 4) I also heard its a good idea to spread some clear adhesive adhesive caulk on the bell unit screw before attaching it to the door mount piece. Let it dry over night before you swing the door. This is a really cool gift for someone who owns a little shop or business!

This bell is excellent. It is attractive, well-made, and makes a good deal of noise when the door moves. We use it at home in order to be alerted when our children come & go. The noise from the "jingling" quiets down slowly and smoothly, so there is plenty of time to hear if the door has been moved. The jingling noise itself is very pleasant and solid, not tinny at all. It has a classic look and is very solid. I expect it will last decades. I highly recommend this bell!!

I bought this bell as a gift for a friend who has a day care center in her home. She wanted something that would alert her when a parent or child was coming in or going out of the side door of her facility. She was absolutely thrilled with this bell. It is exactly what she had been looking for but could not find. The brass bell is of very nice quality with delicate detailing. It has a loud enough ring that can easily be heard but is not too loud to be irritating. Simple assembly is required. I like it so much I am going to order one for myself.

i ended up attaching these bells directly on my door and it is just perfect! these produce the sweetest noise upon opening and i love hearing the chimes ring out throughout the house each time the door is moved.

We just love our new brass doorbell. Our shop is located in a historic building constructed in 1890. The brass doorbell reminds us of someone coming in with a gentle ring and lends to the ambiance of the location. While it's still very new, I can see it will last a long time. The only negative thing at all would be the screws. The brass single slot screw is nice looking but has always been difficult to screw in. If I ever do anything to this bell, it'll be to replace the brass screws with new ones with a Phillips head. Gorgeous and classy!

I bought it for my apartment, so I would know when anyone was coming or going as I live in a large building. It's antique style reminds me of the Little House on the Prairie episodes.… My favorite show I have to buy another one as my ex fiancé who turned up to be very violent ripped it off the door screws and all. And it had been on there since 2016, and he ripped it off last year. Until then, I had no problems, and loved it. Now, we are not allowed to drill holes or have screws in our front doors because they are wooden apartment doors that were replaced in 2017. I am hoping the heavy duty gorilla tape I ordered, which holds up to 30 pounds will do the trick.

The product is exactly what I was looking for but couldn't find because I did not know what the correct name was for it. "That bell 'thingy' that used to hang on shop doors" just didn't cut it when searching for the product. Once I knew to look for "shopkeepers bell" it was easy. This product is well made of real brass and is practical as well as beautiful. I only gave it a four star because I had to figure out how to keep the top on as it tends to unscrew as the bells(there are three) rotates. Ended up drilling a very, very small hole in the top and screwing in a brass screw to secure the top. One injured finger later the bell was mounted and delightfully announces whomever uses my back door--much better than the alarm buzzer that comes with the alarm system. If you don't want the bells to ring just put a piece of tape on the hanging pendulum and silence reigns. Couldn't be better. This would be great for a busy family trying to keep track of just where the kids are!!!
