A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino Portugués: Lisbon - Porto - Santiago / Camino Central - Camino de la Costa (Camino Guides)

I find Brierley's guides to be the best among the Camino guides. I've used his Camino francés guide three times and this Camino português guide once. I've found both guides to contain plenty of information and to be 99% accurate. I wish it were available in e-book format, because when one is hiking the Camino, every ounce of weight that one carries counts. I always carry an ebook reader loaded with all of my other reading material when I hike or do a bike tour.

Recently, a man who has walked the Camino de Santiago three times suggested Brierley's books to me. He is straightforward about the pleasures, challenges, and spiritual meaning of these pilgrimages which lead to the St. James Cathedral in Santiago in Spain. If you are thinking of starting your voyage, this book is very helpful.

Not very helpful. The guide book by Jeffery Barrera is much better.

I think Brierley writes a good guide. There can be an occasional mistake or two or even difficult to follow his written descriptions BUT the maps are great and I really like the layout. This was my second guide book. I also have the Camino Frances, "Camino de Santiago the Way of Saint James".

Used this guide on my Camino. It is definitely better than the "Maps Only" version. Spend the extra money and get this guide as there's more information you can use. I do wish he'd include web or email addresses for contact as not every Pilgrim has a cell phone.

This is the third one that I have bought and it was not disappointing. He was right on point. We hiked through Portugal and Spain in May this year. The Portugal route was new for us but the booked helped tremendously.

A disappointing guide. Many inaccuracies and not much useful information. There is inadequate competition in English but would have preferred the Confrayernity of Saint James 2 part offering. There was nothing about the Variante Espiritual which I took and would highly recommend after Ponferrada.

Excellent book, clear and informative. As a serial 'pilgrim' I can really appreciate this guide. A bit spiritual in places (some people will like this) but you don't have to read those parts, do you?

A necessary guide if you intend to walk the Camino Portugues. Found a few wrong directions in this book which is very unusual for John Brierley.

The book that was delivered is actually the 8th edition - not that I mind that. It is a really cool book, small, informative, and quite pretty.

Aggiornatissima! credo che venga almeno aggiornata una volta l'anno (verificare quando si acquista quando è stata fatta e stampata per non rischiare di prendere edizioni passate). Guardare su internet il sito findhornpress nella categoria "camino"Guardare su questo sito per l'anteprima di capitoli e per vedere la data di pubblicazione e la revisione di stampa se aggiornata!In lingua inglese ma facilmente utilizzabile anche per chi l'inglese non lo conosce, molto intuitiva. Sono ben fatte le mappe, ben indicate bene le distanze, l'altimetria, i vari punti di interesse per le deviazioni, per dormire, per mangiare. Non mancano i numeri di telefono utili per eventuali prenotazioni! Unica pecca... che questa guida non sia per tutti i cammini perchè sicuramente sarebbe un utile amico di viaggio! consigliata vivamente!

I have the Brierley guide for the Camino Frances, and purchased this to compare, and decide if I wanted to walk the Frances again, or try the Portuguese route. Nice details offered in the books from the same author give a sense of the character of each.At this point I'm thinking to walk the Frances again. The Portuguese route seems to demand some longer days I am not really wanting to experience. (30k days are too rough)

I love John Brierley Camino guides! I have used his guide previously for walking Camino France, no problem, well informative, full of knowlege about the route. I have full trust even in this guide, again It is full of important informations for walkers, good maps, light weight, there is no need for another guide book.Walking the Camino in September.

Valuable guide for our journey. We only had 20 days to walk from Lisbon to Santiago. We walked 487KM of the 628KM, and the guide helped us decide what areas would skip, ie the busiest of the highways. We did Camino Frances 2 years ago with the help of John Brierley's guide. Great historical information, as well as information on accommodations and trails.2 Very different Caminos. If you decide on the Portuguese Camino, be sure to have the latest version of the book, as new hostels and auberges are being added. We chose the Coastal Route, And in Pontevedra chose to do the Spiritual Variant of the Camino. Absolutely the best decision we made!!And don't leave home without John Brierley!

Mr. Brierley provides detailed descriptions of the El Camino about both the route and accommodations. Essential for those contemplating the pilgrimage.

As a general guidebook this is fine except that as the Camino Portugues is a fast developing route much of the newer facilities are not included in this guide.I do not need the "mystical"stuff and pretty pictures as much as I need up to date information on accommodation etc.I bought this book because the excellent Confraternity of Saint James guide was out of print.This guide needs to be updated annually if it is to be of real benefit.The C of St.J guide is updated annually.

O guia e muito prático e com informações valiosas. Já conhecia outra publicação, referente ao Caminho Francês, que foi um grande aliado, durante aquela peregrinação. Recomendo!
