Good book showing Conan taking a leadership role for first time
This was a good story with good artwork. This book is the first in this series that leaves the realm of Conan the traveling adventurer, and instead depicts Conan as a leader of Men. Story was a very good read. Conan finds himself out of his element at first going from a traveling vagabond to a responsible leader, but quickly discovers he's made for it. I'm not an art aficianado, so I don't see the reason for the gripes that other posters had regarding the artwork. Good story, I recommend it. Docked it only 1 star due to not quite living up to the amazing stories told in the previous books. Perhaps its because I like reading about Conan's adventures in a swashbuckling context, rather than in a leadership role in saving a kingdom. But it was interesting to see Conan's progression from a lone-wolf vagabond to someone responsible for thousand of lives. It grew his character by leaps and bounds. If you liked the previous books, you'll definetely like this one too.

Good story, good drawing, very average colors
All is in the title! The story is good, even if I prefer the time when Conan was a thief instead of a warrior. But the plot works, the secondary characters are interesting. Not a great story, but an efficient one (and a good adaptation). The drawing is beautiful! Giorello really knows his work, but I have the same regret than before : his talent isn't highlighted by the colors! I even prefer his work when black and white (which we can see at the end of the album) than with these colors. At the beginning of volume 7, there were several pages with great colors! Or even during the 3 pages prologue at the beginning of this volume (the same introduction we have each time) : there, the colors are great! Why can't they work like this all the time?Well, it's a very decent album, worth having if you like Conan. But it still doesn't have the quality it could. Mainly because of these colors...

ass kickin- as expected
I love Conan stories and I love what he represents. nothing helps to get you over a bad day, breakup, argument, car wreck etc., than a good drink and a good story. Conan is the story - the drink is your own. I hope this series keeps coming on strong with great adaptations and artwork. truly something to keep. Tell your kids and friends a tale of great mirth at night when the moon is full, and the wind is still.

One of Howard's best stories gets a worthy
One of Howard's best stories gets a worthy, sweeping adaptation. Conan may have been born on a battlefield, but this is where he proves he can command one. If and when someone tries again to make a movie with a younger Conan, I would hope they look to this story to adapt. With the additional fleshing out provided by Truman, it's got everything a ripping good Conan adventure needs. Though I do miss Cary Nord's art from earlier volumes, it's still very good here.

another great arc for this Conan series
another great arc for this Conan series. this one is a bit closer to his older comics in the sense that it shows off the tenacity and savagery of the Barbarian that people have grown to love.

Conan...has gotten kind of puny...
The item arrived in lackluster condition, though the shipping was fast. As to the contents of the book itself? Uh...well, its just nowhere near the quality of the earlier Busiek/Nord books. Not even close, actually. I can't recommend the series past Volume 4.

Excellent
Hooked me from the opening page. After the first excellent run in this series I felt the standard dropped a little but this one is right back up there with the best in the series.

Excelente compra
Fanático de las historias de Conan desde niño. Me las inculcó mi papá. La calidad artística buena, la historia genial, el precio inmejorable. No hubiera esperado encontrar esta novela gráfica de esta calidad por este precio. Anímate no te vas a arrepentir.

Another excellent adaptation of a classic Conan story.
An excellent adaptation of the classic Conan story, with beautiful full-coloured art. What more could you want from a Conan comic?
