Digital Forensics Workbook: Hands-on Activities in Digital Forensics

This book has detailed activities with step by step instructions, then a few that you do on your own to give you more practice. It give a narrative at the beginning of each activity. It doesn't give you detailed information about computer forensics. I had to use a different book for that. But the two together is giving me a deep understanding of everything I need to know for the field.

I found the book to be a clear, concise, and easy to follow guide. It helps the novice and expert to take the steps required for forensic analyses. The book covers a wide variety of very important and appliable topics, like: file carving, prefetch files, and artifacts in the registry. The workbook steps are keyed to graphics and detailed instructions. I found it easy to read and helpful as a new forensic analyst and would alos be applicable as a reference/refresher for key functons.

I have read several of these books. I read looking for hidden programs in my computer. This book covered topics at a real high level but really didn't arm me with me with information I could use to track these things down or how to review activity on the box or how to make sure that information is captured.

This is a welcome research for learning digital forensics. There aren't many lab-like books for digital forensics. It's great to be able to work through simple, step-by-step exercise to get your hands dirty.
