Panasonic LUMIX GH6, 25.2MP Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Camera with Unlimited C4K/4K 4:2:2 10-bit Video Recording, 7.5-Stop 5-Axis Dual Image Stabilizer – DC-GH6BODY

This camera is an absolute workhorse/beast. It is exceedingly well built, albeit a little on the hefty side. Ergonomics are spot on and very usable out of the box. Buttons and dials can be customized to suit your shooting style. The menu, while dazzling with its myriad of options is easy to use. Custom modes are easy to program. Assist tools in photo and video modes are awesome. I love the focusing peaking, zebras, waveforms and luminance spot metering available. As a video and photo tool, this camera has all of your bases covered. Standout features for photo mode include the 100MP handheld high res mode with motion compensation. I am blown away by how well this feature works. Another outstanding feature is the IBIS, I was able to take a 4 second handheld exposure. I tried to do the same with my other camera systems and they couldn't come close. Panasonic's IBIS is best in class. The increase to 25MP is a welcome addition and I think a very usable resolution for most work. Noise at high ISO is very well controlled and similar to some of my top APS-C cameras. If my work requires an absolutely noise free image, it's very easy to run the images through denoting in post. Most of the time, I end up adding back film grain because the images start to look a little too clean for my tastes. Video mode is where this camera excels. The recording options and formats available put many hybrid cameras to shame. V-log with dynamic range boost produces very flexible footage for color grading. Internal ProRes recording is awesome and so is the ability to record to an external SSD over USB-C. I love being able to shoot in 5.8k open gate mode, which is such a flexible way to shoot if you create content for multiple platforms. Video quality is excellent and of course the IBIS is great too (not a gimbal replacement however). With the built in fan I have experience zero overheating issues. Autofocus for both photo and video is great for my needs. It is not as terrible as every YouTuber would have you believe. In fact I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. For me there are very few cons with this camera. Auto white balance could be better. It is a very bulky/heavy camera for the M43 system. I wouldn't want to bring it with me on vacation or to do street photography, but there are other cameras for that. It balances very well with the larger lenses for the system, like the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 10-25 f/1.7. Overall the micro four thirds system has many advantages that aren't often touted. The wide and complete range of lenses. The increased depth of field at fast apertures has been handy for me in low light scenarios. The compact size and better pricing on telephoto lenses compared to 35mm (full frame). While many are running to 35mm (full frame), I do believe that M43 has key advantages that will continue to make it a relevant format in the digital age. If Panasonic were to release and update to the G9 with some of the tech from this camera I would buy it immediately.

I'm upgrading from the G85. It is worlds better than G85. Overall, in the hand this is a fun camera to use. Everything is accessible and easy to find. I own some high end Pans glass and I think the new sensor gets way more out of the glass I own. My 42.5mm f1.2 was crisp before but with the new color science the images are just way more pleasing. Even sharper perhaps though I may just be crazy. Here are a few of my highlights. -Upgraded flippy screen: The resolution of the screen is much higher than my G85. It is so easy to see if I am in focus or not. Being able to focus peak and punch in while recording is a dream! -Skin Tones: Panasonic has shed it self of green and magenta skin tone shifts. Their color science is spot on, like it better than my Sony cameras. -Improved AF: Not without its flaws but for my use case it is more than capable. Talking head interviews, nature walks, family photos. It is enough for work and play. Photo AF is lightning fast with few misses. I'm amazed at its hit rate when shooting high pics p/s. -Image stabilization- makes my g85 look like child play. Lenses that support dual IS, WOW. -Dedicated audio button: This saves so much time and is a major convenience to check levels for talking head interviews. -Silent fan- I had concerns about fan noise coming into this but I never even notice if the fan kicks on in demanding 4k codecs. Recorded 20min interview in 4k, didn't run once. -Simple menu system. Huge improvement over G85. Quick menu button makes things even simpler. -Handling: I prefer the form factor of my G85 but this is on point as well. A little on the chunky side. -Lut inclusion: the ability to see post processing luts live is a luxury but now that I have it I can't live without -Memory presets: Having 4 memory modes in the top dial makes switching from photos to video and between recording codecs amazing on shoots. I don't know how I have done run and gun shooting w/o it. -Red highlights are a nice touch. Goes great with iFootage gear like my gazelle tripod. (see pic) -The early adopter express card a welcome bonus. Overall, I'm pleased with this step purchase. With how long it take Panasonic to release cameras I don't intend to wait around another 5 years for the next gen with *fingers crossed* the perfect AF system. The AF is good enough, I lived most of my life shooting manual before AF. It isn't the end all be all. YouTubers this is more camera than you'll ever need but the AF will suite your talking head videos.

I have been shooting with a GH4 since it's release, and still love it. I skipped the GH5 series for some unknown reason but when the GH6 was announced I decided it was time to upgrade. I was considering going with a GH5 Mark ii, instead of the GH6, but couldn't resist the GH6's 4K 120p. Plus I just wanted the latest and greatest. This camera is exciting - I love it. I did not leave a rating for the Auto-focus as I haven't used it. I'm a manual focus guy. I'm sure I'll get around to using it some day. The LCD screen is nice and bright and clear and the viewfinder is absolutely amazing. Video is superb - everyone knows this but about the last 3 years or so I'm also a landscape photographer too. I plan on getting the OM-1 camera soon (as I'm switching over completely to MFT) but honestly this camera is extremely capable. No complaints. Everything is relatively easy to use and access. BATTERY LIFE - The GH4 battery was an unbelievable battery - seemingly lasting forever. I started reading/hearing about how the GH6s battery isn't that great. Well I disagree. While it's not in the league of the GH4 battery it is however a solid battery and lasts considerably well. I bought 1 extra battery when I purchased the camera and then about a week later bought Newmowa DMW-BLK22 Replacement Battery (2-Pack) and Dual USB Charger Kit. These batteries, so far, last very similar to the OEM battery. SD CARDS - If I had to complain about something it would be the cards used for this camera. I would rather have a dual sd card slot. I'm old school and would just rather stick to those. I have yet to test out the CFExpress Type B card as I don't have one. I'm waiting for Panasonic to send me my free promotional Lexar card. I purchased 2 new sd cards for the GH6: PNY 128GB EliteX-PRO90 Class 10 U3 V90 UHS-II SDXC Memory Card SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC Memory Card BOTH of these cards are flawless. I threw everything I could at them and are solid. From the beginning I have always used PNY cards and never once had a fail. I've had 1 Sandisk break (not fail). Both are great but PNY is much less expensive for the same exact specs.

We do a lot of concert photography and video and this camera body is perfect for that. We used a variety of lenses and filters with it with no issues. The battery life was good during video but we always had at least 4 extra batteries on hand just in case. Highly recommended.

GH6 is as good as G9 or better in the following aspects: higher pixel number, handheld high-res mode, updated menu, more advanced LCD features, etc. The above comparison is based on the photograph features though GH6’s main application is on the video side, which is different from G9. However, the handheld high-res mode could be used as a 100MP camera realistically, with image quality on par with that of the Sony A7R4. GH6 has made high-res mode a practical and reliable feature, improved from G9. The high-res mode has been tried in the sunshine and overcast conditions with Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8 lens, and GH6 does not produce unsatisfactory results compared to A7R4, especially at 24mm focal length. The shooting duration in high-res mode when handheld may take 1 or 2 seconds plus about 10 seconds for processing, much longer than A7R4’s instant completion. It is fantastic to see the results in comparison. Super handhold stability is not required for the high-res mode. GH6 can be used as a landscape camera, an amazing usage for a video camera considering its cost in comparison with full frame high pixel number cameras.

The camera is perfect! It’s in excellent condition and we are very excited to use it, however despite the listing saying it came with a battery, there is no battery included 😔 very disappointing for my husband to open his birthday present and not be able to use it. I cannot find a way to contact the seller to get a battery either

I’m still getting used to it as there is a lot of new things for me to learn coming from a G9. This camera is amazing as hell. So far I love everything about it, I just can’t believe the price of cfexpress cards. Make sure you have 200-400 bucks put away for one. Also remember there will be an update so you can send pics to a SSD you can mount to the camera. I still got a 512 express card, but looking forward to SSD option.

Exposure and color science is very different from previous gh cameras. If you are matching to older models be forwarned. So far shooting in dynamic boost seems similar to the extra dynamic range you used to be able to get by exposing to the right, but be careful because you can't expose to the right in this mode. Given that it is full V-log I thought that there would be more highlight recovery than there was when I was doing some tests. Really, when in dynamic boost mode you just have to properly expose. I think dynamic boost makes working in post less forgiving than with it off, so I probably won't use this mode unless I'm shooting v-log, which I usually do. You will get more sky etc this way than you could on previous cameras. To my eye the color has less magenta and more yellow cast than previous models. Seems like it might match a Sony better than a gh5, but the color is still better than a Sony. Speaking of color. 10 bit everything! Make sure you're fully prepared to get some compact flash B cards, at least for now until USB recording becomes a thing. Autofocus is much better than any other Panasonic I have tried. I might actually use it for video. There is a lot to like, but also some things left to be desired and promised in future updates. If you can wait, you might just get a better camera out of the gh6 for less money in a year.

It is impossible to describe all the possibilities that the GH6 affords its users. The owner's manual is 880 pages of condensed information. Simply put, this camera is not throttled in any way. Even more simply put, it is one of the very few hybrid cameras that Netflix approves for its productions, period. For myself, I can live with a stop less DR than FF. If I set the focus limiter right, I never get any pulsation in autofocus. (Funnily, twice did I write "focul" rather than "focus"; pardon my French). Otherwise, it is all good. Not candy, mind you, but I cannot imagine that any dedicated amateur or professional in quest of a light setup won't find themselves blessed by the cornucopia of tools they'll have at their hands.
