Review: This will challenge you to come up higher - This may be one of the most interesting paraphrases that you will find. On the positive side it makes many passages much more clear than modern translations done by committees. Occasionally you will find an obsolete word or a difficult word, but for the most part it is at a very low reading level ideal for those who are reading in their second or third language. I never knew Dr Taylor so I cannot tell you what doctrinal position he held and from reading the entire Bible many times I still can't figure out whether he was calvinist or not. There are many passages that seem not to be so but others that do so I am not certain where he stood on the soteriology. Nevertheless it does make the scriptures come to life and is very enjoyable to read... The font is not huge but it is fairly large.
Review: I read English as my third language so this Living Bible translation is easier for me to understand. - It is easy to read passages in the Bible. The print was legible even for me as a 71 years old without my reading glass. I was pleased with the purchase and its purpose. Some Bible translation is difficult for me to understand like the King James version.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This will challenge you to come up higher

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ NOT FOR CHILDREN ONLY, BUT ....
*by M***S on August 19, 2014*

Still my favorite, including even its successor, among what I call the “entry level” Bibles, I am well aware of the animus this, The Living Bible, has created within Christendom ... and not just with the “King James only” crowd. But since, at the other end of the spectrum, “The Amplified Bible” is another of my “heretical” favorites (translated by a woman), I suspect that I am already ... suspect. Its not enough that both were a labour of love from two individuals of hefty academic credentials, but rather the success of their intent. Ken Taylor wrote The Living Bible for children. As a paraphrase, it has the most potential of drifting from “the page” and suspect would be the theologian that depended on it ... but, that was never its purpose. So I completely acknowledge the dangers of “dynamic equivalency,” but feel my arguments would fall, not so much on deaf ears as simply, being over the head of the intended demographic (12 and under). But a lot of adults loved it too, and mostly, those who had many translations. (I wholeheartedly recommend spending extra to get the “Life Application” series available as an adjunct for the translation of your choice. It clarifies difficult passages including bringing a theological scope seldom found outside dedicated commentaries. (These notes are the most concise I have ever seen, packed with wisdom, insights, and clarity.) Frances Siewert’s work, however, sacrifices reading cadence (at first) for a more scholarly quest ... and not just because of her four degrees and her lifetime of dedication bringing The Amplified Bible to fruition. Few speaking only one language are aware how rarely one word finds “one word” in another language that carries all the same connotations. So, on as many “key words” as possible, she includes the many possibilities that would come to mind to someone speaking only the language of that era. (Pause to consider that rare is the word that has only one meaning or implication ... in any language.) It makes for a difficult pulpit Bible, due to readability issues, but in no time you’ll be thinking like the reader of that era. (The minute you see the word “believe” you’ll be thinking ... trust in, adhere to, cleave to, rely upon, etc., as opposed to simply “believing about.”) Most who haven’t spent time in the original languages might find their first purchase of an Interlinear/King James Bible a revelation. With all the holes, gaps, omissions and more importantly “additions,” they might find “literal equivalence” a theory literally filled with holes. This is not a “God of the Gaps” situation ... it is the difference between languages of different grammar, alphabets, and cultural milieu.
