I love using this for our Saint Benard/ Rough Collie mix, she is such a hairy dog and has had so many issues with fleas because of her long fur. It got so bad to the point she chewed all the hair off of her butt and tail. We tried so many different methods, even spraying our property to remove the fleas, changed foods because we couldn't understand how it was so bad still until we started using frontline. This product has made a huge difference for her. Within 2 weeks you started noticing a visible difference with her fur growing back and her finally being happy again it was a relief and I highly recommend to use this product.

Works well. Have used it on three dogs. Vet told me it was only necessary to apply every 2month. I apply it in Northern climate May, July, and September. None in the winter. None of my dogs has had fleas, ticks, etc.

This is a great product works well for my dog. He doesn’t have any issues with ticks or fleas since I’ve purchased. This would highly recommend.

Allow me to caveat this review by saying out of 700 plus reviews this is the most difficult to write as I despise having to use pesticides on our dogs. That said, we live in Tick and Flea central, surrounded by deep woods and our bulldogs are in every sense of the word family and we do whatever we must to protect them. That said if you're reading these reviews your dog or dogs are your heart too and using these products is a difficult choice to make, but it's one we have to make. On that note, it's my hope the following information has some value for you. Frontline was first put into clinical trials in 1985 shortly after the discovery of it's active ingredient Fipronil. To it's credit Frontline has maintained the safest albeit not the most effective treatment for fleas and ticks. However, the more effective products pose a significantly greater risk to your dog. It's a slippery slope, but in evaluating what's best for your dog by providing the highest level protection with the lowest risk Frontline and FrontLine Plus are in my opinion your best bet. Most tick and flea products contain Permethrin which may also be listed as Lyclear or Nix as the active ingredient. Permethrin is a lethal neurotoxin that flows through the dogs circulatory system and flushes into every major organ - including the brain where it can do dire damage. Thousands of dogs die every year from Permethrin. Although the FDA has mandated a minimal use not to exceed 750PPM companies continue to ignore the guidline because it's cheap and effective, and sadly it's our dogs that pay the price. What makes Permethrin so dangerous is that it can't distinguish between insects and mammals which of course includes human beings. It's been known to be lethal to cats since the 1970's. In fact it's so deadly to cats that even a slight transfer from dog to cat can result in seizures, brain damage and death. Permethrin is volatile as well - meaning it's airborne properties pose a threat to all who breath it in - humans included. Frontline on the other hand uses Fipronil. Fipronil is an insecticide. Like any chemical of this nature it can be lethal at too high of a dose. However studies including those from the Department of Environmental Conservation have determined time and time again that as long as the amount of Fipronil is at the correct dose for the weight and size of your dog toxicity is far easier to avoid and the product much safer for your dog. Unlike Premethrin, Fipronil is absorbed into the hair follicles and oil glands only. It is not absorbed into the dogs system nor is it volatile so you and your beloved pets and children can breath easy. The second active ingredient in FrontLine Plus is Methoprene which is a long existing and time proven IGR (insect growth regulator) it's distributed exactly like Fipronil but only acts on flea and tick eggs and Larvae - this is important because it kills these vermin at the start of a new life cycle. What is more, the diseases that ticks carry now are infinitely more serious than the dreaded Lime disease - which for decades was the only concern. Competitors to Frontline (and some Vets selling other products) claim that fleas and ticks have become resistant to Frontline - However these pests have become resistant to some degree to all pesticides and no independent research exists to confirm this claim. I can assure you I've researched this in the greatest depth. The bottom line is this - all of these products pose a risk. The wise choice is to minimize that risk in your effort to protect your best friend from the diseases these vermin carry. Again, these diseases can be infinitely more lethal than the ingredients of the protection. To that end your safest and most effective choice is Frontline or Frontline Plus. In the event your pet has a bad reaction to Frontline products these are the symptoms you would see: * Restlessness * Itching * Vomiting * Difficulty Breathing * Lethargy Should these symptoms occur, of course take your pet to your Veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately. It should be a comfort to know that unlike the toxic ingredients in most other flea and tick control products severe reactions to both Fipronil and Methoprene are rare.

Best brand in my opinion! Never a bug on my pup and much cheaper then going through my vet! Has no smell and oil on fur disappears by end of the day!

The Frontline Plus flea and tick control for 45 to 88 pound dogs was worse than a disappointment. My dog is 50 pounds--well within the dosage range and become infested with fleas during the second month/dosage of usage. I'm not sure if the preventative actually worked the first month or if I just didn't notice the fleas until the fleas had multiplied enough for me to easily see them. I also don't know if I received the same quailty Frontline product through Amazon as a store/vet purchase. I have no reason to think that this was an imitation product other than some suspicions by other reviewers. Regardless, I had to use a flea dip and flea bomb my house. Once an infestation occurs, getting rid of the fleas is quite an aggravation. I'm trying Advantage II from PetSmart now to see if that will work. Hopefully, something will. June 24 2013, Advantage II didn't work either. I've had acceptable success from Certifect which I buy from my vet. I've used Certifect for over a year now. These flea and tick drops are made by Frontline but are only sold by prescription or thru a vetinarian. It works great for ticks. I've not had any problems with ticks from the first dosage. For a few days, though, after the dosage, he is a bit lethargic. However, my dog will still pick up fleas. The drops do kill the fleas but don't repel them quickly enough. Many people are having trouble with fleas because of the sucession of mild winters. The flea population isn't culled enough. During the summer months, the fleas just seem to overwhelm the medication and flea dips or additional organic sprays are necessary. I've been told that a new flea and tick pill may now be available. I know the flea pill works but I hadn't used it because I needed something for ticks. If this rumor is true, I'll definately give the pill a try. December 30, 2014. I finally found something that actually works for controlling fleas and ticks for my now 70 pound Labrador/mix. (He was a stray that my family adopted--short hair.) My vet introduced me to a new product (at the time) made by Bayer. It's a flea collar called Seresto that is sold on Amazon. I couldn't believe that a flea collar would really work. But, after having to hire Orkin to get the fleas out of my home, I was willing to try it. It's the best product that I have used for fleas and ticks. It's easy to use. I just put the collar on my dog. In few days all fleas were gone. The only ticks I ever find on my dog are the ones that he picks up during a walk or bush adventure. They are easily brushed off (when I notice them) and never attach. The collar lasts as long as advertised--8 months or in our case 5 months since he likes to swim. Unlike the drops, he is never lethargic afterwards. I have used several of these Seresto collars now and can't recommend them enough. They are sold on Amazon, by veterinarians, and I've seen them at Pet Smart as well.
