11 Pc Carbide Tip Tipped Cutter Tool Bit Cutting Set For Metal Lathe Tooling

I've used several of the 11 Carbide Tip Tipped Cutter Tools and I found they worked very well. The finish on aluminum was very good and satisfactory on mild steel. For the price I think it is a good set of bits.

The holding length is a bit short for large hands, other than that it is a wonderful set.

So far I have used a number of these bits in my mini lathe. I have no complaints; they are sharp and performing as anticipated. They come in a nice case which keeps them protected when no in use.

These are great little cutters...only thing I don't like the square edges on the boring bars...I have a special holder for boring bars...oh well I guess I can just use a bit holder for them lol

Of the set, Id say only two did not need heavy regrinding to fix bevels that seemed to be backwards. The shelf that the carbide is brazed on to is at such an angle that the bottom corner (or the trailing corner in one case) makes contact with the work first. After about 2 hrs of heavy grinding to re- establish the bevels they worked fine but be prepared to put in the time on these before they will actually cut something.

I have a lot of flakes of red paint falling off these all over my setup. The tools are at various heights so they each need a different amount of shimming to work on centerline. It's nice having a mix and that has helped me make a number of cuts that I would otherwise have been incapable of, but the tools don't seem terribly sharp out of the box either. I'm still dialing in my lathe for the first time so this easily could be due to some other calibration I have that's out of whack, but I have other tools I picked up to try that are working notably better for the cases where they fit. If you have a setup with a dovetail tool changer, some of the issues are probably not as bad as they are if you need to screw each of these down to adjust the height.

Much, much smaller in reality that it seem to look on pictures.Good only for micro-lathes...

Only turning plastics with these so they've proven to do well.
