A STEM Winner
"Your Place in the Universe" is the winner of the 2021 Cook Prize from the Bank Street Center for Children's Literature. Thousands of school children voted this amazing volume the best picture book about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Author/Illustrator Jason Chin succeeds in developing children's understanding of the immensity of the known universe. He begins with the average height of four 5th-grade students and moves ever onward and forward to make comparisons of Earth phenomena comparable to the all but unimaginable time and space fundamentals of the universe. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no formal ceremony for the bestowing of the Cook Prize was held in 2021. But, the substitute virtual acceptance talk by Chin is even better than a banquet speech . YouTube has a 15-minute plus close-up interview with the author/illustrator who further explains the making of a book and explores the concepts of time and space that he highlights in "Your Place in the Universe." Significant and revealing end matter is a special bonus for STEM learning. This is a great book for all ages of readers, including adult who love astronomy (or should).

A wonderful and imaginative introduction to the universe
This is another of Jason Chin's great books for children. It takes them on a mental journey with just the right size steps to go from familiar surroundings to the vastness of space. The in-depth information in the back makes it useful for children older than the 8 year-olds in the book, and many ages can enjoy the images.

Help kids get a perspective on size, of an ostrich, the world, and beyond.
This is a wonderful book to help littles get a perspective on size. It starts with a pair of kids. Then the words and illustrations put them together. Two kids, they’re as tall as an ostrich. Each page moves onto larger and larger things, until children meet unimaginable ones like the earth, the moon, and eventually, the universe. Somehow the author/illustrator helps us imagine them all. Incredible! The back matter is just as incredible too! It starts with the size of us humans and moves skyward. Up to the atmosphere, to the solar system, and beyond. It even peeks into light years, using stars to peer into the past and to guess the age of the universe itself. It’s a one-of-a-kind book for kids, their parents, and teachers!

Imprescindible.
Otro gran libro de no ficción de Jason Chin. ¿Cómo hacer comprender a un niño el tamaño del universo? Chin nos lo descubre de una manera muy original. Esta es la clase de libro que habría gustado tener de niño.
