unexpectedly good read
Not at all what I was expecting but a thoroughly enjoyable story with engaging characters. My favourite line, which I think more of us should take on board, was: “I listen to the quiet voices.” Janice stops and looks at him. “What do you mean?” “I figured out long ago that if I listen to the few people who shout at me, I am making them more important than they are. What they say will stay with me, upset me, and those loud voices will go on and on, even when the shouting has stopped. So instead I listen very carefully for the quiet voices–which is most people…….Those people, the quiet people, seem to have more important things to say.”

I read this in a day because I couldn't put it down...
What a wonderful book! I married someone very like Mike and could really identify with Janice. I've also done plenty of cleaning jobs and dog walking for people. My childhood had a few similarities too... I so wanted a happy ending for Janice, she'd had enough sadness. All the characters were so brilliantly drawn and I wished I could meet Mrs B and Carrie Louise and Geordie and Fiona and Adam but most of all Decius. Can't recommend this enough!

Wonderful book - warm and delicious
I loved this book, the second of Sally Page’s I’ve read in two weeks! The characters feel alive and real; people you want to know more and more about and quickly find you care deeply about. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Good story, just a bit slow going
Some books grab you straight away but this was very slow. I persevered and about 60% of the way in it started to get really interesting.

Heartwarming, curious and fun
I had totally run out of books from the plethora of author's I usually turn to and this book was suggested as something I might like by the kindle app. To be honest, it wasn't the genre I'm currently exploring and I wasn't sure I'd like it, but stuck waiting somewhere I thought I'd read a chapter or two just to pass the time....Well, the characters are people you could know, believable, funny, sad, real. Decius, the Fox Terrier is as wise as he is funny. This is a story of a woman who collects stories, and in a lot of ways maybe we all do as we travel through life. The friendships she builds and the trials she faces, alongside of those of her friends make for a beautiful heartwarming story.I don't want to spoil the story by giving anything away so will just say if you want a bit of joy in your life this is a good story for you. Well written and easy to read, but hard to put down.Who would like this story... everyone.Happy reading.

Good but
In some moments was boring and there was too much descriptions of the side plots
