Kiss and White Lily for My Dearest Girl, Vol. 1 (Kiss and White Lily for My Dearest Girl, 1)

This *yuri* manga is kinda refreshing for me cause it isn't the really angsty *Citrus*, and nor is it the cute and not-as-angsty, but somewhat realistic other *yuri* works such as *Girl Friends* and such. It is simple, sweet, schoolgirl crushes, relationships, and such.Now, some *yuri* can be a problem in being bigoted via only having schoolgirl crushes that might or might not go anywhere. It doesn't seem to go that way here and I hear it's good in future volumes, so hopefully what I've heard is right and it stays this way.What I mean by mentioning the possibility of bigotry is that sometimes in Japan there is the idea that girls can get "practice" for "real relationships" by engaging in harmless, somewhat but not really lesbian relationships. I'm not saying that if one disagrees (in love mind you, not hate as is too often the case) with homosexuality, they are bigots. But this attitude in Japan is very much looking down on, demeaning, and thus bigotry. This is not done from a moral viewpoint, but a cultural conformity of calling homosexuality "disgusting". Thus my concern that I don't want to see happen.Now for the meat of the story. The basic premise is about two couples primarily. The main couple's story begins with a girl named Shiramine Ayaka. Up until recently, she was the top student in her class from younger grades upwards. She is, much to her dislike, upstaged constantly by a new student named Kurosawa Yurine. She feels pressure to do well by her parents' standards, though we aren't shown her parents being too strict to abusive in these areas so far.What makes this especially hard for her is that Kurosawa is seemingly lazy and doesn't care or try to do anything. All things come easily to her while others who try hard to study or work out are always behind her. She is the best athlete too, but cares not a whit for athletics. Think of Haruhi Suzumiya, but without the super-powers and reality warper skills.But there is a change afoot for Kurosawa when Ayaka, frustrated with this other girl's attitude, gets in her face. Suddenly, the lackadaisical (seemingly though not as much as folks think) Kurosawa is filled with interest in this other girl. She pursues Ayaka madly, which would get a tad uncomfortable if it wasn't written in a funny and sweet way.The "beta couple", if you will, is Ayaka's cousin, Mizuki and her track team manager, another student named Moe. The obvious love and sweetness thereof make them a joy to watch. Especially since Moe takes a very carefree approach to things and poor Mizuki, who is very intense and serious - like her cousin and best friend Ayaka - often misinterprets her. This leads to the drama that is kinda simple but very fun and "awww" to watch. Of course, Moe in her own obsession to solve mysteries gets angsty herself in a really funny and absurd way.A reviewer I read stated that it was kinda uncomfortable watching the reticent - and clearly not wanting to reciprocate - Ayaka pursued by Kurosawa. I agree to an extent. The only thing that makes it not bad but okay for the story is the fact that it is written in a sweet and humorous way wherein Ayaka says she hates it but still shows concern and kindness for the other girl. And again, the humor makes the silliness overtake the bad in a sweet way.I do think that Mizuki and Moe have the more admirable and stable relationship. We'll see where they - and Ayaka and Kurosawa - go from here. Should be interestingThe art wasn't to the level of *Citrus*, but very few are. It was lovely at times and at time vague. It basically served the plot. The lovely bits rivaled the art of such as *Girl Friends*. And at all points, there was a really sweet and "awwww" aesthetic to it.I hear the future volumes deal with differing couples and such. It should be interesting to see where this goes. It might very well never deal with serious issues, but if *Kiss and White Lilly for my Dearest Girl* handles these lesbian relationships with respect then that is something good that one can cheer for. Especially in a sweet and fun format.Rating: 4/5 Stars.

What do you do when you are expected to be perfect, but discover someone who is better? That is the delema that Ayaka Shiramin is in as her seat neighbor Yurine Kurosawa seems to be everything she aspires to be, but how is that possible when all she does is sleep in class and has no motivation at all except confess that she is in love with her? As this mismatched pair starts the school year Ayaka swears she will beat her rival, but is the fire of education the only thing driving her?This was a pretty good start to the series. The two girls are so different it is no wonder they work well, Ayaka is the studious type who also does have a sweet side, and Yurine appears to be a space case, but only shows Ayaka her more serious side. Not only do you have the cover couple to read about but there is also Ayaka's cousin who is also trying to get closer to her close friend (and somewhat stalker) on the track team. Also there are little side stories about other students and couples in between chapters that fill out the story, reminding you that not just the titular characters can find themselves. I will have to see how this proceeds.

This is such a cute manga. The story is well written.

It was as gay as i hoped

This was adorable!Quick Thoughts:- Distinct characters in personality and looks once I got a handle who was who- There were a spots I had to reread to understand who was saying what- Multiple characters you get to follow was fun and immersed me in the setting- Art is nice, not distracting which happens in some manga for meI bought the first two books in this series (that is usually all it takes to see if I enjoy it enough to continue) and will be picking up more. As of 7/26/19 there are nine books with the tenth on the way. I don’t know if that will be the last book or not. I read this during the July 2019 24in48 Readathon.

This manga so far is pretty sweet and lighthearted.You get to see the stories of love and friendship of at least two pairs of girls so far and they work at accepting each other. I don't want to oversell anything here as it's really lighthearted in the sense that nothing bad happens as you're just reading cute stories, but I don't want to undersell this series yet either.it feels like a slice of life where we are probably going to see these girls grow and have fun together in no naughty way.

So sweet!Anyone who has ever worked hard to be the best but got unseated by someone who doesn't even try will love this.Kinda like a manga/yuri Amadeus.With a darling little love plot.

Such a sweet love story series and I love how it gives space for side characters with the extra pages, it feels like we’re getting so many stories in one and shows the skill of a great writer. Also it’s cute and gay and I love it makes me think of my girlfriend when she tries to kiss her

El manga es gracioso, tiene un buen dibujo con las expresiones y el tema del manga es muy bueno, que puedetomar la frase " del odio al amor hay un paso" que aquí funciona muy bien con las protagositas y no solo vemosa esas dos, también vemos un enfoque en otra parejita de lo más lindo, que en los demás volumenes veremosun muy buen desarrollo de esas dos.

El desarrollo de la historia es hermoso, el diseño y una que otra risa con los diálogos.Un manga más recomendado si te gusta el shoujo ai y lo adorable.Llego a tiempo y en buen estado.

Intersante libro para la persona que le guste este tipo de temas. Buena compra. Llegada en fecha. Es lo que se espera.
