Outstanding product
I’ve had this range hood for six months now, and I absolutely love it. I bought this particular model because of its reported ability to extract smoke and steam from front burners, and it definitely delivers on that promise — see my video. It’s also very quiet at its lower speeds and reasonably quiet at its highest speeds. And the self-cleaning feature works really well. I previously had a 25 year old Zephyr range hood that was a real pain to clean, so I appreciate how easy it is to clean the Hauslane. The stainless steel housing is of excellent quality and cleans up nicely. The lighting is very effective and not too bright. It really enhances the cooking process. The bulbs it came with perfectly match the color temperature of my undercabinet and overhead lighting. Since this range hood is quite powerful, be sure you have a source of make up air when running it at higher speeds. I just open a nearby window when needed since my home lacks a proper make up air damper or passive vents. My only recommendations for improving this range hood would be to add the ability to use only one of the two fans at a time, and make the lights dimmable. Also, it’d be nice to have a way to turn on the lights and vent simultaneously with one button. My contractor had no problems installing the range hood all by himself, but he’s a real pro.

Good replacement for Bosch OTR Microwave
Our Bosch HMV3053U Over-The-Range Microwave stopped working so we decided to upgrade to a stand alone range hood and a separate counter top Panasonic microwave. Installation: The range hood is fairly straight forward to install but it requires at least two people to lift and install it. It would really be helpful if it has a paper template to help you drill the mounting holes. We had to cut a piece of cardboard to turn it into a makeshift template. If you are replacing an existing OTR microwave like us, you would likely have a 3.25'' X 10'' rectangular vent duct in your cabinet. It's highly recommended to replace the 3.25'' × 10'' stack boot with a straight 6" coupler. The range hood will have better flow and lower noise. If you decide to use the 3.25'' X 10'' rectangular vent then you'll have to remove the "air duct tongue" per user manual. If not then you'll run into severe air restriction and noise issues. Performance and noise: We are fairly impressed by the suction power and how quiet it is. I believe people that complains about the noise and performance likely installed it wrong because they forgot to remove the "air duct tongue" during installation (see previous section). The actual air flow is closer to 400-450 CFM. If you read the product spec sheet on Hauslane's website, it would say Laboratory Flow is 450 CFM. 860 CFM marketing figure is only possible if you run it without any ducting attached.

*PLEASE READ* Probably good if it worked!
*edit* there are two dampers you are supposed to install at the top hole. These are crappy plastic and will 100 percent fail. There is absolutely no reason for them. I removed these and the unit worked properly. Changing rating from 1 star to 4. Good hood as long as it is working. Have not used cleaning function yet. I originally bought this hood vent fan in November 4th, 2021. The package arrive and was quite large and heavy, usually a good sign in kitchen equipment meant for heavy duty usage. Once we unpacked the hood and plugged it in, there was an awful noise. I emailed the Hauslane team and they told me that this was caused by the fan being jostled during shipping and that there was a way to fix this. They sent me a series of picture showing how to disassemble the hood to reach the fans on the inside. I was then instructed to loosen a nut on the fan and adjust the position of the fan until it didn't scrape the housing. both myself and my father-in-law tried adjusting the fan to no avail. No matter how wee moved it, it was coming in contact with the housing and making an awful noise. We initiated a return on the unit and sent it back. Upon receiving the new unit, I first plugged it in and tried it out to make sure we weren't facing the same issue. There was no noise and it seemed to be working as it should. We installed the unit, which is quite an undertaking and requires pieces of plywood, cabinet jacks and the ability to contort ones body. I used it the first night following the installation and it seemed to work great. I was boiling corned beef and making a soup for a Reuben dinner for my pregnant wife. When I turned the fan down from the highest speed to the third level, there was a loud noise and then both fans were rubbing against the housing and making the same noise as original unit. I disassembled the unit to access the fans and try to adjust their positioning by loosening the nut as they had suggested for the first fan. Regardless of how I positioned the fans, they continued to scrape the housing and make an awful noise. I am left with an installed hood vent that is rendered useless. I have reached out to Hauslane for help to solve this issue but as of yet have not received any response. I will update this review if and when they respond to my e-mail. I cannot and would not recommend this product at this time. While it worked well for the time It was working, the headaches involved in re-packing the original unit and sending it back, installing the second unit only to have it fail with the exact same issue, are not worth it. When someone spends 4-500 dollars on a piece of equipment, they expect it to work, and at the very least have the company stand behind the product.

A Powerhouse of Style and Performance: Hauslane PS38 Range Hood Review
The Hauslane PS38 Range Hood has truly transformed my kitchen experience, delivering exceptional performance and sleek aesthetics. Its standout feature, the powerful suction provided by its perimeter suction design, sets it apart from other range hoods on the market. I'm enjoying searing steaks, high heat stir fries and Indian curries with no smell in my house. Additionally, its stylish appearance adds a touch of elegance to my kitchen décor. While there are a couple of minor issues, such as the clock losing a minute every month or two (easy to correct the time though) and the sharpness of the metal on the interior removable baffle, these do not overshadow the overall excellence of this range hood. The most remarkable aspect of the Hauslane PS38 Range Hood is its powerful suction capability, thanks to its perimeter suction design. It effectively captures and eliminates cooking odors, smoke, and airborne particles, ensuring a clean and fresh kitchen environment. The suction power is impressive, efficiently venting out the unwanted fumes and ensuring that my kitchen stays free from lingering cooking smells. This powerful feature greatly enhances the cooking experience, allowing me to focus on preparing delicious meals without worrying about smoke or odor issues. In addition to its outstanding performance, the Hauslane PS38 Range Hood boasts a visually appealing design. Its sleek and modern aesthetics add a touch of sophistication to my kitchen space. The stylish stainless steel finish seamlessly blends with the surrounding appliances, creating a cohesive and elegant look. The clean lines and minimalist design make it a focal point in the kitchen, enhancing the overall visual appeal of the space. While the Hauslane PS38 Range Hood excels in many areas, it does have a couple of minor issues. The clock occasionally loses a minute every month or two, which requires occasional readjustment to ensure accuracy. While this can be slightly inconvenient, it is a small issue that does not significantly impact the overall functionality of the range hood. Another minor concern is the sharpness of the metal on the interior removable baffle. It is essential to exercise caution and wear gloves when cleaning to avoid any accidental cuts or injuries. While this requires an extra step during maintenance, it is a manageable issue that can be easily addressed by taking proper precautions. The self-cleaning feature is worthwhile - however please note it mostly cleans the fan blades so you'll still need to wipe down several surfaces. Despite these minor concerns, the Hauslane PS38 Range Hood has surpassed my expectations and earned a solid five-star rating. Its powerful suction, stylish design, and overall performance make it a top-notch choice for any kitchen. The minor issues mentioned do not overshadow the exceptional functionality and aesthetics of this range hood. If you're looking for a powerful and visually appealing addition to your kitchen, the Hauslane PS38 Range Hood is an excellent investment that will elevate both the functionality and beauty of your cooking space.

Hood looks great and the perimeter air inlet works well
This replaced an over-the-range microwave/fan combo that was only effective for the rear burners since it only covered half the stove. The PS38 covers the front burners and is very effective at drawing in smoke and odors. Installation was very straightforward but definitely requires a helper unless you have a way to elevate and hold the hood in place while attaching the screws. I think it weighs close to 50 lbs so arms and shoulders tire out quickly holding it above your head. I had to reach out to customer service because the hood vibrated at fan speeds 3+. It was enough to cause my sheet pans stored above to buzz and rattle. I sent Hauslane a video showing that the squirrel cage impellers wobbled a good bit so they immediately sent out new replacement impellers. They were easy to replace and solved the vibration issue. At low speeds (1 or 2) the fan is very quiet. It helps that there are 2 fans since they don't have to spin as fast as a single. The LED lights are bright and illuminates the area very well and the bulbs are easily changed out without tools. The GU10 bulbs are easy to find at Home Depot/Lowe's with a selection of brightness and color temperature. The stainless finish looks great and it comes with a microfiber cloth that does a very good job of removing smudges and fingerprints. Suction is excellent but I haven't tried the true test yet with a steak and ripping hot cast iron pan. My list of cons is pretty short and minor: 1. There is only one illumination level (bright). With the old microwave I often would leave the light on low overnight so I didn't have to turn on the main lights to see. 2. I'm nitpicking but I don't like that the clock has a zero in front of single digit hours, eg. 01:15. When glancing quickly at it or from a distance it takes a moment to determine if it's a zero or a one. 3. You can't turn the light or fan on without hitting the power button first. The power button does however turn off both the light and fan when powering off. So far I have no regrets choosing this model, but it's only been a couple weeks.

Came with big dent at the corner, leakage when cleaning
The shipment was delivered late about a week. That is not the big problem. The package has a small open hole at the corner and two protective foam was broken in the middle and one at the corner. Open the box and noticed the big dent at one of the corners as showed in the attached. Contact the seller through Amazon but did not get any reply/help from them. Need a range hood since have been waiting for more than 10 days so ignored the corner issue which was a big mistake. Everything went through smoothly for the installation but a little challenge for the bolts at rear. Hard to see where the hole is but used the “mirror” feature of the smooth and flat stainless steel surface to get bolts into the position. Following the instruction to clean the rangehood weekly and now noticed the big issue as showed in the attached video. The video shows one side and the other side was doing the same thing when the cleaning feature was turned on and the water was sprayed into the rotor hosing. Need a replacement through Amazon quickly but you still need to contact the seller. Hope that process is smooth and the next unit is not a damaged one. Worked with the seller for about less than 2weeks with email back and forth. Did not get the problem resolved. It almost reached the last day of the return. Contacted Amazon to request the extension of the return of possible and Amazon did the best to support it. Also spoke Amazon asked replacement but has to be rebuy and return. So going to give it a try since all the setup/holes have need done properly already. Today the second unit arrived. Because of the last experience, use the light to check the crack at the same location and noticed the same thing happening. Also noticed that there were dark oil on the plate. Don’t done where it came from. The crack is smaller than the previous one. So I decided ti use silicon to seal it. It is a dirt fix but I don’t need to wait for additional 2-3 weeks for another one potentiallly with the same issue. Don’t know how they do the quality check. And also the edges are sharp enough to cut the hand/arm easy. You would never ever want to reinstall it once it is done. I do like the cleaning feature of this machine but if I can select it again at the beginning, I will not pick up this brand. Suggest you to check the crack at the location in the video/picture before you install if you want to have a range hood from this seller.

Happy customer
Powerful, much quieter than my over the range microwave it replaced (I also used sound dampening panels on the walls around the unit and around the ducting to help with any noise), looks nice, light is a nice warm glow but also actually illuminates. Haven't had it long enough to try the steam clean function.

A heavy duty performer
A heavy duty performer. As spec'd, this hood can evacuate a lot of cooking smoke, fumes, vapor. Read the instructions carefully so you understand the operating parameters. Customer support is outstanding as I had a small issue which was quickly and thoroughly resolved. It is a little louder than other exhaust hoods, but it performs on a different level. The self clean option was a welcomed feature and surprise as to how well it works. A heavy duty piece of performance for the active home cook.

It "REALLY SUCKS"
This unit is fairly quiet, at maximum setting it is slightly louder but that is expected. On lowest setting noise level is barely noticeable, but still exhaust air very well for light cooking. Generally my setting is on level 4 unless I'm doing heavy duty working then I set it to max. No odor unless the wife didn't turn it on when she starts cooking, by turn it to Max then all cooking odour is gone. Now my neighbors know when I'm cooking. Lol. Installation is easy. I use the template provided to locate the four screw location and undercut the cord template opening because if you cut the cord opening as per template it's a little oversized and would not leave enough wood for the mounting screws to bite into the wood. My shelf where the hood mounts is double thickness and the screws just perfect length. I recommend if your shelf is single thickness I would add another board inside to make life easier for the installation. I use the screws provided and screw it onto the wood with a 1/4" of the screw head sticking out. Lift the hood and aligned the mounting holes of the hood with the protruding screw heads, and push the fan hood back to lock in the screws then using a long #2 robertson screw bit (6") to tighten the screws to the shelf. Voila' it's done. No need to have another person to help. It can be done by one person as long as you prep the screw alignment accurately with the provided cardboard template. Only negative side to this fan is the control for fan speed is not very responsive, and like all the other reviews said... setting the clock is terrible. Wish the steam clean holder/container was built in, instead of a separate piece which I have to find separate storage space elsewhere. Otherwise I'm very happy with the hood. Fan is easy to clean...used it for 2 weeks now and no signs of grease accumulation yet..... maybe because it is strong and blew everything out. Can't respond to the steam clean as I haven't used it yet. Hope this fan have some longevity. Well worth the price.

Works when cooking with front burners
This is the first range hood fan in my 51 years of life that actually works when cooking with the front burners. Impressive. Unorthodox look but gets the results. If you have the budget, go for it. You'll be happy.

Great hood
Looks nice and works wonders. We have had 450 CFM before and it was not good for our Pakistan Style cooking ... so got this 950CFM and it works great. No more smoke or smell. Even the sound is same as 450 one. So all in all a great buy. Covers the whole range. The cleaning function is good but needs to use it twice atleast to get a good clean. Lights are very nicely places and covers the whole area. Very heavy in terms of weight. So you will requires atleast two for installation. Delivery was fast but it was heavy for one person to get in the house. Works great and does what it was bought for :)

Product arrived defective
I bought this range hood after reading a lot of good reviews. I had an installer coming in but immediately he noticed there was something wrong about the hood. One of the fans wouldn’t turn smoothly and hits the side wall. When he tried to turn it on to test, the one fan wouldn’t even work. This seems to be bad quality control as the box and the hood haven’t been damaged during shipping. My installer noted too that these fan type hoods are older technology and currently they use turbine which are stronger and less noisy. On top of all this, I have to pay to return the hood back which will cost me over $60. Such a waste of time and money. I bought a Chinese brand recommended by my installer.

Good and quality hood with right price.
Good and quality product, looks nice, functions very well. a couple of regrets: missing washers, the folded template is not quite accurate -- makes installation difficult and since it is 'heavy', installation is pretty challenging by one person. And I do not find anywhere in the manual on how to set time. (need to re plug the power to set it as I found later). Overall, I recommend it for all the minor uncomfortable stuff.
