Solid Piece of Kit for Canon or Nikon Off-Camera Flash Use (not for Sony flashes)
I bought this hoping to secure my Sony flash to a light stand (actually, a handle with a 1/4" post like I've always used for my Canon flashes. However, the Sony hot shoe is just too dainty and fragile to attach a flash in this manner. After much research it turns out that the Minolta and Sony shoes are near identical and the part I needed was a "Minolta off camera shoe os-1100" sold only used now. That all said, this is the best hot shoe light stand adapter I've every had and plan to used it with my Canon flash. Sure, you can buy a four-pack of cheap Chinese ones for $10. However, if you're securing a $500 Speedlite and wireless receiver and plan to run around with it all during a wedding like I do then why not drop the extra $9 and getting something much much better made? The knob to secure the hot shoe is nice and large and turns easily. PLUS, the whole thing doesn't fall apart when you loosen it too much (thank you, Wimberley). The adapter itself is cut from a nice metal block and is very tough. I'll probably lose this thing long before it ever breaks. I really like Wimberley stuff, in general. Isn't it nice to use the good stuff when you can? Cheap stuff has its place sometimes, but this is a little piece of gear that I'm going to rely upon while getting paid to shoot many times, so why not?Having shot Nikon for a long time I can tell you that this will work equally well securing Nikon flashes. Both have sturdy metal plates on their hot shoes. Sony needs to rethink their design if they are going to sell to professionals (or sell a decent adapter that protects their hot shoe and let's their flashes be secured to something other than their cameras.

I found it
I've been looking for this cold shoe adapter for a long time. I searched high and low and gave up because I thought there's no such product in the market. The ones currently in the market you need to insert a penny into the slop to tighten it, and it you loosening it a little too much the entire half falls off the the spring inside will pop off. So I was so elated to find this adapter that I can tighten by hand and loosening it until the knob stops. What I didn't like was the price. I thought it costs a little too much.

Best cold shoe clamp I could ever find
It is an all metal construction with no plastic at all. The lock knob is anti-slip and large enough, making it easy to lock a 1.5 pound 7" monitor. In addition it has another grub screw besides the 1/4-20 screw hole to secure it from turning. Protect your equipment from disengaging and crashing to the ground. It is expensive but my monitor costs 50 times more. This a hard to find high quality mount. Don't increase the price anymore and I may buy a second one.

Solidly built, holds the flash unit solidly. Can be locked down to it's mount.
I am using this with Canon Flashes and it holds them securely. It has a locking screw to lock it to the stand so that it cannot be spun back off. I have some cheaper cold shoes that I am far less confident in.It is expensive but it is very well made and feels solid. I don't expect to have to replace it unless I manage to lose it.

Well engineered and manufatured.
Wimberly products are well engineered and manufactured, including this cold shoe. The tension holding the flash can be adjusted with the screw knob. Properly adjusted, the flash is not going to fall out of this shoe. A bit pricey, but worth it to hold a valuable flash or other accessory.

The AP-7 is very nicely machined and finished
I purchased the AP-7 along with the F-2 macro flash brackets. I use this with the Canon 600 EX-RT flash. The flash is quite heavy, and the AP-7 as well as the F-2 hold the flash without issue. The AP-7 is very nicely machined and finished. The screw on the side to hold the flash works well. There is no shake when tightened.

This unit works and makes a solid connection, unlike the units from Stroboframe or the Promaster copy of the Stroboframe -- both of the latter have much poorer fit and finish and wobble if one is not very careful.
