Fantastic resource for anyone with a struggling addict in the family
I initially purchased just one book to read over and provide us a resource for one client. I have since purchased two more of these books to give to other clients. I am a licensed clinical social worker, and work with people with mental health challenges as well as people in difficult situations. I am also a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. The material in this book is incredibly accurate, but it’s written in a way that is easy to understand. It has been very helpful to my clients and identifying what they are experiencing. It also helps them recognize some of their own habits, and how to start addressing a very difficult matter. I highly recommend this is a resource for anyone struggling with these issues, as well as for my fellow clinicians.

Lifeline to understanding alcoholism
This book truly helped me through the most difficult experience of my marriage and life. It was recommended by my therapist. I highly recommend reading this if you have an addict in your life. This book is practical and clear about all the things a family may encounter. I wish I had read this long ago and maybe I would have done things differently - not accepted a marriage with an alcoholic for so long - but we can only do the best we can in the moment. We are still married and now working through sobriety together.I definitely recommend Al Anon, but it's something that takes time. This book literally guided me through an immediate crisis. If you're reading my review, that means you're searching for change. Buy the book, connect with Al-Anon, seek out a counselor for YOU. Best wishes on your future.

Amazing Educational Book
Dr. Robin is a fantastic educator on the ins and outs of families who struggle with an addict at home. I enjoyed her raw, honest answers to helping others through her struggles. I have used this book as a learning guide for my Family Support group and also had her present to them. She was terrific with the wealth of knowledge she has coming from being a clinician, an addiction specialist, and a family member of a loved one. I highly recommend you purchase this book for your education or if you are running groups for families.

This is a must read if you have a loved one that is battling addictions/alcoholism
I hardly put reviews, but this book has been an eye opener. It explains so much that we (those effected by the actions of our addicted loved one) have not been able to put into an organized thought. It is super difficult to explain to others if they are not in the situation. This book helps us learn to place boundaries and write down ideas, thoughts, and exercises that help us deal certain situations. I definitely recommend to anyone who is dealing with this type of issue. I used the audible to listen to it, but had to buy the book to have it handy and to do the exercises. The author has suffered like we have and makes it easy to understand.

Wow, this step by step guide will save any family many years of agony and trying to help their loved. Its an amazing book to all family members and friends with addicted loved ones. I will encourage any one out there struggling with addiction in the family to read this book. Its an eye opener, simple and precise, I wish I had it 3 years ago...things would definitely be different. But nonetheless, am glad i found it when i did....things have already taken a positive turn both for me and my loved one. Thank you so much Robin for publishing this book. Its the best I have come across as a family guide to families suffering from addiction. I also recommend the book to Doctors, Counselors, Rehabilitation Centres....its priceless so they may not only know who to help the addict one but also the family members who are an integral part of the addicts recovery.

Addict in The House - Good Read, Good Advice.
Good book, good read. Helped me to better understand addiction, what addicts go through, and how to deal with addicts, and their behavior in fairly plain language.I have neighbors who are drug, and / or alcohol addicted. Helped me to deal with their behaviors. As in the setting of, and keeping to, boundaries with them.I have already loaned the book to others who are dealing with addicts on a daily basis. There are about 3 other people who have also asked to borrow the book from me.All based on my synopsis to them of what the book contains, and how it might be useful to them.I found the book to be very useful to me, in dealing with addicts with whom I am acquainted.

Inciteful
The author writes this from several perspectives. She not only is an authority and addiction professional, she has personal experience having lived through her brother's disease for most of her life. I gained a clearer understanding of addiction as a disease with such power that not only the victim has no control, but equally importantly, the loved ones in their lives have no control over the illness or the victim. The author provides valuable communication tools along with unbiased therapy options. She gives loved ones incite into the disease and how to take care of themselves throughout this nightmare of addiction. Highly recommend.
