This is a very nice quilt book. Has mostly modern coloring pages

I had the great, good fortune to organize a special exhibit of Thomas Knauer's quilts for the 2016 Minnesota Quilters Show and Conference that was held in St. Cloud MN. His quilts were the widely commented on by those who visited the special exhibits section, which included many exquisite and interesting works. When I got home I immediately bought his first book, "Modern Quilt Perspectives," and I put this book on order. I am not sorry I bought either one of them. Which one should you buy? It depends on what you want to do. "Modern Quilt Perspectives" is a book of quilt patterns that discusses how Knauer creates quilts from life experiences. "The Quilt Design Coloring Workbook" is a design and coloring workbook of exercises based on modern art to help you design your own quilt patterns. The exercises address various uses of space, balance and symmetry (or lack of it), chance and intuition, simplicity and sophistication, the uses of a grid, geometric environment and repetition and iteration. Each exercise includes one quilt that illustrates the concepts in the chapter. I highly recommend this book. One word of warning, however. While both books are very beautiful the photographs are just not the same thing as actually seeing his quilts. You can make any of the quilt patterns or use the pictures as inspiration for your own quilt and be confident that they will turn out beautifully.

Such a fun workbook - grab some colored pencils and have a good time. It is inspiring my quilt design process as well as my mosaic design process.

The book wasn't what I was expecting. A little disappointing really.

Wonderful book for someone who is in the "I want to learn" mode. It's a text and a workbook not a book of quilting patterns. Exactly what I needed!

Very interesting addition to the quilt library. Hours of learning and creating

I'll be honest. I don't like this book at all. It is a 'colouring in' book of grids and random shapes with no guidance as how to use it. The quilts in the book have little or no connection to any of the patterns shown.
