Good charge/value
I bought the similar energizer charger and I found this one to be better. I bought them for my Xbox controller and the Duracells last much longer. This charger also handles both AA and AAA and comes with a set of both. I use the AAA in my remote so that was an added convenience. I definitely wish I had paid the few extra dollars for the Duracell originally because it is definitely worth it.

Reasonably fast in-pair charger / High-quality rechargeable batteries
My pet peeve with most battery charger manufacturers is that: they don't usually tell you the Charging Current. Instead, chargers are advertised for their Charge Time, which varies with battery capacity. In the case of this Duracell ION SPEED 4000 Charger , Duracell claims the charger's power rating is '4000mW'. But exactly how does that translate to charging current is not explained. Here is what I have determined about this charger: - The charging current is 1550mA when recharging two AA cells. - Two NiMH cells have a combined voltage of 2.6V approximately while being charged - Power = Voltage * Current = 2.6V * 1550mA = 4000mW approximately, hence the name "Ion Speed 4000" Mechanically, the Duracell 'Ion Speed 4000' is a clever design. You can fold it into a small block for storage or travel, and then unfold it for charging. Electrically, it suffers from the same limitation as most battery chargers: it can only charge in pairs. This is very inconvenient when you have appliances that require odd number of cells. In addition, charging in pair often results in over-charging for one of the two cells. This can lead to reduced capacity in the long run. The four "Long Life Ion Core" rechargeable batteries (2xAA and 2xAAA) in the package are really good. They are made in Japan and appear to be rebranded Sanyo cells. According to my test results using La Crosse BC1000 Battery Charger : - Duracell 'ion core' AA cells are rated 2400mAh but measured close to 2600mAh, similar to Sanyo Eneloop XX AA batteries - Duracell 'ion core' AAA cells are rated 800mAh but measured around 820mAh, similar to 2nd-gen Sanyo eneloop AAA batteries [Summary] I consider the Duracell Ion Speed 4000 charger to be just acceptable, mainly because it has to charge in pairs. But factoring in the high quality 'ion core' rechargeable batteries, this package is a great value overall. On the other hand, if you need to recharge odd number of cells and don’t mind longer charge time, then consider the Panasonic K-KJ17MCA4BA package instead. [Remarks on Charge Time] On the package it claims “Charges batteries in 1 to 2.5 Hours”. But the actual charge time depends on number of batteries and their capacities. You can estimate charge time based on 'Capacity/Current' - To recharge a pair of 2600mAh AA cells will take nearly 2 hours (2600mAh/1550mA = 1.67h, add 10% for good measure) - When charging four AA cells, the same 1550mA current is multiplexed between left pair and right pair every other second. So the charge time is doubled to nearly 4 hours. - When charging two AAA cells, the current is 750mA. So charge time for a pair of 800mAh cells is slightly over 1 hour. Double that if you charge 4 cells at once.
