Permatex 80335 Muffler and Tailpipe Sealer, 3 oz., Plastic, 1 Count (Pack of 1)

I searched for a long time before deciding on this product to provide an extra seal to my exhausts catalytic converter flange. The flange in front of the cat was leaking, and so I r&r'd the old bolts, and then I wire wheeled the mating surfaces. Despite this, there was still a decent bit of pitting, and this 'sealant' worked well to fill in any imperfections that were present. I did this roughly 6 months ago, and daily drive the vehicle - no leaks from the area that was patched. I even reused the old 'donut' gasket since I didn't want to spend any extra money or time on this repair. I would recommend this to anyone who is working on an older vehicle with a rusty exhaust, or to anyone who wants to exercise an abundance of caution when trying to prevent any exhaust leaks following a repair.

The product itself is awesome. Seems anything I buy from Permatex does what it is supposed to do. For this particular "repair" I was a bit unsure as to which Permatex product to purchase. My motorcycle exhaust has a connection where the header pipe and tailpipe meet. An aftermarket "Jardine" exhaust and oddly quite a large gap at the connection whereas the bracket is supposed to crimp and does not do a very good job at sealing it. This may be how it was designed but for me an exhaust leak in your plan is not a good plan. Bottom line i wanted to seal this joint but wanted the option to take it apart to install new header gaskets down the line. Reaching out to Permatex they actually recommended a different product that was twice the cost of this with half the temp limit. I am happy I chose this as it sealed the joint and I was able to disconnect the pipes and install the gaskets. I am now looking to try a "lap joint" bracket as I would prefer a more permanent solution. I feel anything with the Permatex name is a good product but has limited shelf life and will eventually break down. The trouble is they make so many similar products it is hard to choose the correct one. In my opinion there is not one single best application for a particular project. Doing some research prior to buying is always recommended.

By far the best priced and quality muffler and exhaust sealer. I tried out just about every type there is several times. They would all work for a big but then they harden and start crumbling and falling off the exhaust! WHICH THIS ITEM DIDNT DOThis was the ONLY item that would seal my exhaust spot like it should, but also STAY on it and didnt completely crumble after a short time. Yes, it’s TEMPORARY, but this lasts 10x as long as the next best thing. And this is BY FAR THE BEST PRICED item of this type. Trust me ive looked and bought just about every type for a while for the issue i had til I got a permanent repair.PURCHAsed this SEVERAL TIMES. I live by a certain auto**** store less than 1/2 a mile from me and they carried a bunch of other paste type exhaust repair stuff, but not thjs EXACT ONE. I found one store a 20 minute drive from me thag did carry it and for almost exact same price as on Amazon. So instead of just going to the store super close to me, I drive a 40+ minute round trip to go and get THIS SPECIFIC ITEM, CUZ I KNEW IT WAS A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT BETTER QUALITY WISE. U may not recieve anywhere near as large of a portion with this , but I’d rather have what WORKS!This stuff works great. Nust understand beforehand it’s not a PERMANENT SOLUTION! It outlasts ANY AND EVERY OTHER BRAND OUT THERE by a ton! Usually every other type EXCEPT THIS would all harden and crumble from my exhaust within a few days. Sometimes the very next day. Thjs stuff has lasted n temporarily fixed my issue for a few weeks at a few diff times. Just had to go and reapply another coat and I’d be good to go!By far best price out there, and does a way better job than any other as well!Highly recommended and will buy again if ever needed !A++++++Oh ya, and as always, Amazon had it shipped to me INCREDIBLY FAST, usually next day delivery almost always !

I like the way it applies and the way it seals. I don't know how long it will last but so far good job.

This is decent for a temporary patch. Please don't expect this to hold up long term but for short term repairs this does the job. Over time it crumbles away.

Great stuff it works and dose the job.

This product comes out as a thick paste, which fills gaps up to 1/8". Dries hard and slick. Does not do well with vibration, and cracks if the surfaces move against each other. That being said, this product stands up to exhaust heat very well, and as long as the surfaces are fixed, it will stay put. Be sure all grease and solvents are removed from the area to be sealed before applying. Good value !
