There is no required maintenance, other than making sure they are replaced when they are full. My one gripe with this is what I likely believe as a minor quality control issue. I did purchase two 3 packs at one time, and one of the boxes holding the three packs had loose beads. Although it didn't affect performance or be a major functional problem, I would prefer something, especially for ease of use like this to not leave residue to be cleaning up later.
