I don’t understand your question. Yes, there is storage space under the frame. Depending on your frame, that is how much space you have

I know it says it can be used without a box spring but could you use a box spring with it?

Yes! I have a queen box spring below my mattress, which makes my bed nice and high. I love this because I am 6'2" in height, and I also use a bed skirt. If you add your box spring, I'm sure you will need a bed skirt too with this system. Now, the first night or two that I slept on it, the box spring wasn't stable. It shifted a bit (1"?), which concerned me. However, it quickly worked itself out, and has been very stable! I suspect that was because 1) my box spring was a little warped from an uneven bed rail that I neglected for over two years, and 2) my body weight compressed the box spring. But buy this unit; it is excellent! No more squeaking like I used to hear, and I didn't need to attach a headboard.

Can i put 2 twin xl frames together to make a ca king? in case i need 2 separate beds in the future?

Yes. But you will need to buy a bed bridge so someone doesn't fall through the middle. Also, probably metal brackets to keep the mattresses together and on the bed frames.

It didn't come with instructions. Are there instructions available online?

Mine came with some basic instructions. You can probably find them on line, but it is pretty easy to put together.
