How short can it be adjusted to?** A: It is a fixed length so you will need to adjust your set up. Measure from the plate w/flat screw head to the base of the 3 prongs, there is also a fine ajustment flange screw on the shaft between the 2 points you measured from to start . Hope it helps. Just know that you should not have it holding something like a distillation flask opening as the PVC will melt a bit. You can probably remove the PVC grips if you want to hold a piece of glassware that will be hot, but I have not tried this yet.
