Q: Why does it say "number of channels: 3" in the product description?

I bought this device because I thought I could watch one channel while recording another. Definitely cannot do that. However, while recording a show I can start watching it from the beginning while it is still recording. So basically the recording options for this 150 model are the same as for the older 130 model, which I also use. Have no idea what they mean by number of channels: 3.

Q: My 65 " samsung will not allow ota channels. will this bypass it?

Some TVs don't have built in tuners. If that is the case with your TV, then this DVR will solve that problem as it has a TV tuner as its basic function. Of course it records shows just like a VCR but you need to connect an external hard drive. You can play back recordings on the device or you can connect your external hard drive to your computer and play back. Also note that you will have to scan for TV channels when you first set it up just like you do with a TV. Make sure you hook it up to an antenna.

The USB port on Homeworx is USB 2.0. Most portable drives require more than 2.5W. We recommend to use a desktop/3.5" hard drive with NTFS and in MBR.

Q: What format does this record in? Can the recordings be transferred to a PC?

According to the manual that came with it, the format for recording is NTFS. As for transferring to a computer, I haven't with this recorder, but with my old one I just moved the memory stick to the computer and had no trouble downloading the files. Good luck.
