Great- and good Sell By date
I'll start with something really important to me- the sell by date. I bought these cookies in January of 2010, and they are good until 9-2010, which is important to me, since I hate eating rancid food, so I just throw it out. I've always loved these cookies, and my market sells them for much more than the subscribe price, so I'm happy to subscribe and save. I love currants, and it's hard to find things flavored with them. I have to admit, the currant taste is not strong, but they are delicious anyway, and I love the puff pastry. Further, I'm allergic to GMO corn starch (genetically modified corn starch)- and just try to find cookies in US stores without corn starch (and 95% of all corn is modified in the US, and does not have to be labeled so). So these are a real treat for me- since they are a cookie I can actually eat. The cookies are flaky, as puff pastry always is, and slightly sweet. As other people have said, this is not a terribly sweet cookie, but it is quite sweet enough. I enjoy mine with tea, and I also take them in my lunch. If you take them in your lunch, put them in a little box- because they ARE delicate, and you might end up with delicious crumbs if you don't protect them. I know this because I squashed them once.

Heaven in a box
I swear these cookies are going to kill me some day! They are so delish that I cannot control myself. You've been warned take a risk at your own peril. They are so flaky, but not dry. The current and cherry center is sweet, but not overly sweet. It's the perfect combo. My hubby hides them from me so that I won't eat all of them in one sitting. No shame in my game these bad boys are awesome. I got the big box with 12 boxes inside and not one single cookie was broken, now that's professional craftsmanship and great packaging too.

They are my favorite cookie but check to make sure it's the right product
These red currant cookies have been my favorite for decades. They are light, flaky, and just the right level of tart sweet. I adore them. I have purchased them multiple times here but my last order, unfortunately, was the wrong item. I had them for about a month before opening the package (I still had some from my last order), which is when I realized the error. Instead of the Delobas it was the Leibniz Butter Biscuits. Considering how long I had the delivery I just consider it a small lesson learned and will make sure to check the next batch I order as soon as it comes.

Nice, fresh and buttery cookies!
Very nice, moist and buttery! It's great with tea or coffee! I enjoyed this cookie, just wish there was a little more red currant jelly in the cookie, but the quality is good.

The light and flaky pastry with a red currant middle
Me and my husband love these cookies but are difficult to find. Can you believe that I found them while visiting my daughter in London?! We love the jellied center and the flaky texture of the pastry

Rare red currant flavor
I love red currant and it is not a common flavor. These cookies are nice because they have red currant jam added. Not overly sweet as a whole, but you can taste the red currant jam and it makes for a nice childhood memory

They used to be my favorite........
They used to be my favorite cookie, but now they are not.... I ate them in the mornings with my three espressos - making the perfect breakfast. They became a tradition.. They contained most of the attributes of bacon - they just did not have the same perfume. I bought them wherever I could find them until I could no longer find them locally. Then I began to buy them on Amazon. The twenty-first carton of twelve boxes arrived and this morning I opened it with wide eyes, anticipation in my heart, and taste buds watering. I sneaked one before the first espresso was finished. The puff pastry tasted dry and powdery and lacked the sweetness that I remembered. It was as if there was no butter between the layers of the puff pastry and it was missing that final layer of sugar glaze. They lacked the crispness of the bite that I remembered and loved.. Unfortunately, now they are nothing. First they changed the boxes. It was then that became suspicious, as I knew the blue box was a guarantee of goodness. When they changed the recipe or the baker, I cannot tell you. It seems to be another decision that someone has made - to make a healthier version and failed. I wish they would let me decide what is healthy for me. Starting my day with mentally healthy breakfast is the first step to having a good day. Ruining my day leads to letters like this one and more.... Sitting, remembering, and savoring those perfect cookies of the past is all I have left. To make this a positive experience, perhaps every time I think of buying a box of Bahlsen Deloba cookies I invest in the stock market instead, perhaps I will be better off.... Please do not make more cookies anticipating my change of mind... Do something positive!

My childhood in a box!
I love Deloba cookies! I ate them as a little girl - it was one of my first memories. I used to be able to find them at the Chinese grocery store and Raley's. I did find them in fancier grocery stores but the cost which used to be $2-3 is not $6-7 for one box. I'm glad that I am able to enjoy these cookies again and on a regular basis, which is bad, because I can consume one box all by myself in 30 minutes. Since I've eaten so many cookies, I have noticed that some boxes, the cookies are bland. The last box I had was crisper and had more sugar coating. It's kind of surprising because I would have thought machines would be consistent. I'm definitely buying more and then some to give away for Christmas. January 2024 udpate Okay, I'm a sucker for these cookies. I have ordered 12 boxes every month for the last 5 months and I'll be honest with y'all - I ate most of them. I had to stop in November and December because I gave a box away to everyone we gave gifts to. I got nervous when the January shipment was delayed, but it finally came. I'm not sure if Bahlsen is reading the reviews but man, oh man, they cranked up the sugar! Two of the boxes had so much extra sugar in the coating the cookie was CRUNCHIER. And if you've gone through these boxes like I have, you would know. Some of the cookies I think weren't left in long enough so the sugar granules did not melt. I think overall I like this last batch of cookies the best.
