Pen won't charge after second time using it. Had it just over a month so can't return it. Now have to go through the warranty process. At this moment, would have rather bought a Montblanc for the same price. Review: It is pretty cool to see the pen paired to the app and rewatching the pen strokes in real time. Other than that, the pen itself is a thin roller ball. Nothing fancy. Would be nice if you could swap out for wider nibs or even a fountain pen. My biggest gripe on design would be there is no clip to hang on a shirt pocket, notebook cover, or notebook strap. Also, would be nice to come with a case or the option of buying a branded case, because it's weird to have such an expensive piece of hardware without any sort of travel protection. I planned on buying something nice so to actually use it daily. I'm not sure if they sell compatible yearly calendars, but would purchase if they do.

This system is absolutely amazing! The app and pen setup was under 5 minutes. The only 'drawback' is that it backups only to Google Drive or OneNote. Not a big problem, but again, in under 5 minutes I had my unused google Drive linked to my Apple Files/iCloud so no issues accessing it easily and under one location. I also purchased the planner/diary option. A weekly planner on one side and notes on the right side. With my first pen stroke, it showed up n the Moleskine app and I could search the handwritten notes, export the page(s) in numerous formats (pdf, word, text, SVG, photo...so many!). With the planner, you can write an appointment and it instantly uploads to my iCal...what?!?! All in all, this system is seamless, effective and easy - just as technology should be.

UPDATE 11/2025 Moleskin support has repeatedly told me that a new app that has backup and syncing capabilities over the 18 months I have used this product. They just included me in their Beta test for the "new" version of their app. It's even worse that the current main release. I upgraded to the app. It synced my old notebooks and only captured about half of the pages. The current notebook I am using complete disappeared...it's gone and can't be recovered. Moleskine support told me (after the fact) that it's because I'm not updated to the current iOS on my iPad (I'm 1 release behind) and that's why all my information was deleted. So, if you want to have any back up of your digital information, expect to jump through a bunch of support hoops with totally incompetent developers. And at best, you might get some of your information backed up and synced. Don't buy this product...buy something else like Livescribe that has an actual functioning supported app. Not sure why anyone would want this product for $300 when you're effectively just writing on the paper. The digital component is total garbage. ____________________________________________________ The app that goes with the smart own set to transfer your images is pretty poor quality development. Difficult to log in to. Pen doesn’t easily connect. You can only use it on one device at a a time so you can’t have it on both your iPad and your iPhone or Mac. The app is poorly supported too…moleskin basically does not support the app. They respond to contact, but just to tell you they can’t help you. I’m backing up to OneDrive and Google Drive (you have to manually switch between the two) but it remains to be seen if those backups are recoverable. The back up is all in proprietary encryption to the Moleskine app so you can’t read it in other formats.

I've tried 3 or 4 different writing sets including Moleskin's older, cheaper version and this new one is really top notch in Quality, Technology and Effectiveness. The price is so high! But don't do like me and buy the cheaper set first, use for 8 months, then still end up buying this more expensive one. I say it's worth the cost if you use everyday like me to handwrite your todo lists and take daily work meeting notes. A+!

This pen could be an excellent smart device, except for getting a replacement charging cable and the limited ability to transfer data. I have tried for nearly a year to find a replacement charging cable for my pen. I looked for a replacement on the Moleskine website and they show they stock them. However, they have been listed as out-of-stock since last fall. It does give you the option to submit your email address to be notified when the cables become available, which I completed. I received one email stating that the item I had requested information on was in stock. Within five minutes of receiving the email, I went to the Moleskine website to make a purchase, only to see that it was still out of stock. While the pen has excellent potential for note-keeping, the day planner notebook is only compatible with the iOS calendar and does not transfer to Outlook.

I used Livescribe years ago and it was great for its time. I figured 2022 and my favorite notebook could do no wrong. This is nice for quick notes, but took a little bit to pair and the text didn’t work a lot of the time. I’d like to take work notes and copy and paste from text, but will not be able to rely on this. I’m known for writing neat too. I say this is worth half the price 🤷🏻‍♀️

I AM NEVER BUYING MOLESKINE AGAIN!!!!!! I was such a heavy user of their amazing products, but I've been trying to return this smart pen set and they just threw me to the FOURTH email / line of communication. I'm really disappointed, just spent $300 in a product that is worthless, doesn't work and they do nothing about it! My advice: RUN AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!!!!

Vengo del anterior modelo, el cual he usado TODOS los días desde hace 3 años. Nunca tuve ni medio problema con el anterior modelo. Como este porque la batería del anterior ya no me dura más que 2 horas al día. Llevo usando este 3 días y fenomenal tambien. De momento no hay gran diferencia en lo que respecta al uso. Es más lijero (tampoco es que el anterior fuese pesado). Y más pequeñito. Sincroniza exáctamente igual que el anterior. Y puedes incluso escribir en la misma libreta, por si tienes alguna a medias. El sistema de carga es mucho mejor. No es por puerto micro USB como el anterior. Lleva un sistema parecido a los que tenían los ordenadores apple antes. Con un Iman. Si hay tiron del cable, se desconecta y queda mucho más elegante. Puntos negativos en comparación con el anterior, han perdido en el diseño. El anterior modelo es con acabado metalico y clip de camisa. Detalles plateados de aluminio y con forma ovalada que era muy comoda a la hora de escribir. Este parece todo más plástico acabado en goma. Sin clip y redondito. Ha perdido en diseño. Personalmente pienso que es una pasada de bolígrafo, tanto si tomas todo en apuntes como yo y necesitas digitalizarlos o se me ocurre gente que dinune con proyectos o cosas así que necesite digitalizar. Mi experiencia fenomenal.

Esse produto é excelente. Tenho usado há semanas e funciona de forma que nunca esperei. O design é lindo, a caneta é macia ao escrever, carrega super rapido e o caderno é Moleskine. Super recomendo!

I LOVE this! I treated myself looking for something distraction free to draw and write with and serves this purpose perfectly. You can't beat the feel of real paper and Moleskine paper is top quality (I'm not a connoisseur but compared to my £1.99 (insert supermarket brand here) notepad this feels like real quality. What you're paying for here is the Smart Pen and as a concept, it's absolutely fabulous. Once paired with your chosen device you can simply write in the notepad - your don't even need your device to be close by, the pen stores your notes in its memory until you open the app and then your notes are downloaded to your device. Sure, you can see your notes being written in real time if you have you're device on and the app open but that's not distraction- free but is a perfect demonstration of this magical little pen and notepad. At first I wondered if the pen would shift around in my hand causing problems with the IR sensor but found that the lid clips in place at two positions so the flat part of the lid rests comfortably against the index finger knuckle. The two positions seem to correspond to left and right handed use. There's a definite click when rotating the lid into these positions. Your notes can be exported to various formats including SVG vectors which I have tried with Affinity Design and Concepts with limited success and the Moleskine Notes app needs more development but is quite capable. More so than I expected actually. It's not as elegant as my fountain pen and seems to rattle a little but not during actual use. Sure, it's expensive and before it arrived I already had buyers remorse but not any more. Its a niche product and you should do your own research as to whether its right for you but wow, it's amazing. Update 20.4.25: I've come to realise that the Moleskine app is actually more capable than I first found. In particular, exporting. I wanted to export my writing and drawings to SVG and use it in Affinity Design and Concepts but had limited success. I have since found that exporting to PDF has an option to export to vector PDF which works perfectly with both of the above apps.

Fairly easy to set up and then I was writing away and watching my scribbles appear on my smartphone! The conversion to text was really accurate. Now I just need more time getting the notebooks on my phone set up logically. Still early days, but the tech is amazing!
