I Prefer Tablytes, but Add-In Drops Are a Good Electrolyte Supplement, Esp. Potassium.
I have a very strict diet that makes it difficult for me to get enough potassium. In the summer, when I am sweating minerals out in the heat, dietary potassium is often not enough. I found that a couple doses of Elete Tablytes solved the problem on days that I perspired a lot. I preferred the Tablytes to the Add-In, because pills don’t require me to drink an excessive amount of water. But Elete moved its facility last year, and tablet production has been suspended. Elete has said that Tablytes will go back into production at some point, but I needed to find a substitute in the meantime. I looked at every electrolyte tablet I could find online and only found one with a comparable amount of potassium, and that had other ingredients that I cannot tolerate. So I turned to the Elete Add-in drops, which contain more potassium per serving than the Tablytes but do not contain calcium or phosphorus. The Add-in drops contain 130 mg potassium, 125 mg sodium, 390 mg chloride, 45 mg magnesium, and 20 mg sulfate per serving in a base of concentrated inland sea water and purified water. A serving is ½ teaspoon (1 capful) of the add-in, which Elete recommends to put in 32 ounces of beverage. The recommended concentration is 1/8 teaspoon per 8 ounces beverage, 1/4 teaspoon per 16 ounces beverage, 1/2 teaspoon per 32 ounces beverage, or 2 teaspoons per gallon. This small dropper bottle contains only 10 servings or 24.6 ml (0.83 ounces). If you use a higher concentration of Elete, you begin to taste the salt. I was relieved to find that I can put a full serving (1/2 teaspoon) of the Elete in 6-8 ounces of liquid, if the beverage is sufficiently flavored. I squeeze one whole lime or lemon into a glass, add 1/2 teaspoon Elete Add-in, and top with seltzer. It’s a little salty but not bad. This would probably also work with fruit juice. So, if you’re not an athlete and can’t see yourself drinking 32 ounces of water to get one small dose of electrolytes, less liquid will work. If you buy the 24.6-ml pocket bottle, you can refill it from any of the larger refill bottles at a much better price per serving. Push the dropper top to the side with your thumb, and it will pop out, so you can refill the bottle. The pocket bottle is nice for trying it out and for carrying in a pouch or purse, as it has a screw-on cap that measures 1/2 teaspoon.
