These have been the most comfortable well fitting hiking shoes I’ve owned so far.

High Quality Shoe
I have 2 pairs of these, which I rotate. I was having some ankle issues as I have an artificial ankle that is about 13 years old. My main problem with the Oboz, which may be specific to my foot, is the insoles are too hard and have too much arch. I replaced them with a much softer insole. The combination seems to be working very well and appears to have helped my foot issues. I also use soft and fairly thin (less than a 1/4") heel lifts under the soft insole.Update February 2024I now have 3 pairs of these shoes and they are still working well for me. I want to emphasize that these only work for me by replacing the insole with a much softer and more padded insole. The Oboz insole is way too hard. The forefoot part of the Oboz insole is very, very thing and only has the most minimal padding. While the midsole of the shoe itself has reasonable impact cushioning, the insole at the arch and heel is also greatly lacking in cushioning. The memory foam insoles that I purchased on Amazon work extremely well and are sold at very reasonable price (~$10), so I remain happy with the combination. It is possible that these foam insoles might need more frequent replacement.Update December 2024:I have 4 pairs of these now that I rotate. Since the last review, I have been able to switch to the much firmer and more rigid Oboz insoles and they work fine. It seems I went through a fairly long period of adaptation to this shoe. While the Oboz insole is not as soft as the third-party memory foam insole, it appears to provide better arch support.

Not The Same Sawtooth
This would have been my fifth pair of Oboz Sawtooth hiking shoes, but the quality has changed. The original shoes had an easy to tie lace system that used nylon strapping for the laces. Quick to tie and easy to loosen. No more. The shoes now feature a series of holes in the vamp. Not nearly so easy nor nearly so comfortable. This is a real shame as the Sawtooth was my active wear shoe for the past dozen years or more. I’ll not buy the again unless Oboz returns to the old lace system … which is highly unlikely. Sigh.

Sawtooth X Review, better than the originals
Honestly, one of the best hiking shoes I’ve ever owned. I used to swear by Merrell Moab’s, but these are sturdier. The new version got a bad rep compared to the original Sawtooth, but imho the new version is better. For one, the Sawtooth X is a real wide. I bought a pair of the original Sawooth’s in wide and let me tell you, they are not actual wides. I believe that’s confirmed somewhere online, maybe the manufacturers website. Also, the sole of the newer version is more stable. I know people swore by the old version, but they were the only shoe I’ve ever worn that made me feel that my ankles could twist inwards. I returned the original version and got the X instead.I was a little worried at first, as they started off rather tight (even the wides). However, after a few miles and 2-3 walks in the rain, they have loosened up nicely. They have kept my feet dry despite not being waterproof. They are still a bit snug, but nothing too bad. I also use them to work out and have even ran in them fairly regularly if needed. Obviously they’re not running shoes, but in a pinch they’ve done just fine.I’d like to see a little more width in the wides, but that would probably be the only thing I’d change. Not a fan of the insole they come with but that’s an easy fix.

They have really gone downhill in the last couple years
The media could not be loaded. Hopefully, you watched my video showing my discrepancies about the shoes. They’ve gone downhill and they have lost what they had. That was amazing when they came out with the original shoes. I was so thoroughly impressed with the original sawtooth shoes. I have probably owned and worn out 6 pairsAmended 10-2024. I am coming back here to say again that I’m incredibly disappointed in this new model shoe and I don’t think it’s worth $20 let alone the $135. They are trying to get and the $165.for the waterproof ones. I cannot even imagine who the people are that are giving them Fair or good reviews. These shoes are awful. They are nothing like the original sawtooth. Absolutely nothing. This company should be incredibly ashamed and when they go out of business in just a few years, it will be a very sad day of greed and selfishness that made this happen. Their old shoes were my very favorite shoes on the planet and now I have to go back to some company like keen or find a different brand hiking shoe. How does this happen? How are they still in business after releasing this total junk that falls apart and is not even remotely comfortable after trying to break them in.
