Descriptive language and intellectual humor
Old Man Fookwire and those "fuzzy little geniuses" (the squirrels) appeared at our house in the form of a library book, and got read and renewed so many times that we had to buy our own copy of the book. This book is responsible for teaching my children what a zeppelin is, inspiring them to ask about mangoes and the merengue, teaching them that 12 miles an hour is not a popular driving speed, and prompting them to try cottage cheese with pepper (once). They love the writing style so much that I have overheard them trying to tell each other stories long after bedtime in the style of "the Old Man Fookwire book." It's still fun on my 50th+ read, and one son is beginning to recite it word-for-word (which makes me happy because the book offers such a rich vocabulary, plus some imaginative created words...).

Get The Series! Sure To Be Favorite Of All Kids
This entire series is GREAT! Have six grandkids ages 4-11, girls and boys from two different families and they ALL thought these books were a riot! Hard to match that! Will be enjoyed for a long time I’m sure. Makes grandma happy when she scores a hit with them all!

Great addition to this series!!
I think we enjoyed this one more than the original adventure. The birds fly south for the winter and the squirrels decide to follow suite to see what all the fuss is about. Old Man Fookwire gets a call from the squirrels and drives down to the beach to paint some wonderful pictures of the exotic birds. Old Man Fookwire then heads home to the cold winter - the squirrels drive the car on the way back. My 9 year old and 3 year old enjoy listening to the story. The illustrations are fun and add a lot to the storyline. I would highly recommend this little gem!! Happy reading!

Darling book, cute series, funny!
Darling book, really cute, funny storyline. My only complaint is that the a syllable in the human characters name is too close sounding to a swear word. ("Fook-wire") Little children may actually accidentally use the swear word when trying to say the characters name & not realize that they are saying a bad swear word. Bad form on the authors part in my opinion. He should be more conscientious about the audience of his craft & the repercussions of names & pronunciations. When I read this story to small children, I change the name slightly to avoid these pronunciation problems. I would have given the story 5 stars for a children's book if it was not for this problem, but the name kept bothering me so much that I deducted 2 stars for it!

“Those darn squirrels!” HAH!
These books are so charming, the graphics and the stories! This is the 3rd in a series 3, with Mr. Fookwire as the hapless hero of all three books. This one is fun in the sun. Our grandsons love these books.
