Updates will be quite useful
As someone else has already stated, the multicultural proficiency chapter was the reason to purchase this updated text. I also appreciate the case studies.

Helpful
It's an easy read, I can breeze through the chapters with very little difficulty. Concepts are clear, but some of the ideas are pretty much intuitive. There are some helpful diagrams and things if you run into difficulties while communicating, which was interesting.

This book thinks you're not a human being.
This book is crap. It's very fond of making peer educators sound far more important than they actually are, and it does a terrible job of trying to explain and compartmentalize concepts like empathy. The authors clearly think human beings are robots and you must be told to try to empathize with a student and listen to them, otherwise you'll never be a real boy. If you really need this for some reason because you're supposed to buy it for class, do yourself a favor and try to find it for free online or, better yet, get this ebook, scan through it really fast, and then give it back. Biggest waste of my money I've ever been forced to spend.

What an amazing resource for any higher education professional that is working ...
What an amazing resource for any higher education professional that is working to implement peer education/mentoring on their campus. The book was filled with great resources as well as practical ideas that are easy to implement. The book is written for every level of institution and every level of professional. After reading this I have to say that I can see how this could be used by first time or expert advisors too.The authors have shared information that is steeped in research, while still making the tone and implementation tactics practical so all can understand! This book comes at a perfect time at my institution as we are moving in a new direction and I believe that peer education will be key to solidifying the academic success that we want to see i all of our students. While this book will give me some starting places and theoretical underpinnings that I need, I have some other fundamental things that I have to set up too, and this book spelled some of this out for me as well.I know that I and other professionals will find this book to be a must have in implementing the type of thoughtful learning experiences that we want to happen in these peer-to-peer interactions that we want to take place on our campuses.I highly recommend this to all professionals working to make these interactions occur!*I received this for review - all opinions are my own*

Classic regurgitated stuff
I would not recommend this book. If you have ever read one of those books that goes something like "Did you know this is a good habit?" then you have read this book. It's very annoying. If you are a teacher looking at this book for a class then please don't. I can honestly say in my class of twenty something people that a maximum of 5-6 actually read it. Most skimmed it and the rest didn't have to read it because everything is common sense.
