Westin 42-21015 Oil Pan Transmission Skid Plate fits 2012-2018 Wrangler JK

Great protection for oil pan and transmission pan on Wrangler JK. Would recommend has saved my transmission pan several times . Fairly easy to install with hand tools .

I’m in the process of communicating with Westin and will update this review if it resolves well.My main point is this. The brake press operator who who produced the product that I received bent it backwards of the way is was engineered. I’m posting two photos. A screenshot of Amazons product page and a screenshot of the product I received.Save yourself a headache and CHECK the product you receive before trying to install! Wish i’d seen the problem sooner and saved myself a couple of hours of frustration.Less than a week after contacting Westin I have a new skid plate in hand. Solid customer service.

Love the look of it and seems super solid, took a little longer to install than the transfer case skid plate.Instructions were so bad and the pictures they send with you can’t see anything.

After trying to decipher why I couldn’t figure this out, Westin confirmed the welding of one end was welded upside down. Contrary to other statements, the customer service (Penny) for me was very good. New one shipping tomorrow. Will revise stars once received and installed.—————Received replacement a few days after calling. No rubbing on other parts no issues with install. Would not say this is for crawling but looks solid enough to protect from a random bad rock that could otherwise get your oil pan.

I read some of the reviews that were negative I didn’t really understand that. It actually bolted right in. The instructions were not perfect but if you have any skills at all you should figure this out. One tip, the flat bar that is in the kit is used to reinforce the front bracket. That is not real clear on the instructions.Now that is installed I’m not super happy with the way the nutcert Clips into the motor mount bracket. I think I’ll change that and use a bigger bolt with a locking nut. There’s plenty of room to get a socket and a end wrench up in there. I didn’t take me long to install it maybe 20 minutes. Just some handtools and an impact driver. I gave it four stars because of the way it attached to the motor mount. Update : I noticed that it was in contact with my transmission pan. So I took it off and removed about 3/8 x 8 inches of material from the edge of the bracket. I’m not sure if you can see in the pictures but I threw some bedliner on it and it turned out great. I would suggest to look at everything once you get it installed and go on the trail one time. Things just tend to move around once you drive. Lastly, remove the nuts search from the motor mounts and use a bigger bolt with a locking nut.

Installed on a 2016 JKU w/automatic transmission. This product is a mixed bag. The skid plate itself is beautiful. It's disappointing that you end up covering some of the laser-cut SNYPER letters with a factory skid plate during the installation. The provided M8 bolts and U-Nuts that attach the brackets to the frame/engine mount cannot be torqued to specification. The U-Nut ripped out of the U, and after replaced with a regular nut (making installation more difficult) the bolt sheared in half before getting near torque specification (18-20 ft-lbs). I had to replace them with 5/8 (thicker) bolts. There are serious issues with the passenger side bracket resting on the oil pan and transmission cooler line (even after moving the line significantly and loosening all fasteners to maximize clearance). I ended up using a 1/4 inch spacer under the top of the passenger side bracket to gain additional clearance. While re-torquing the lower driver side bracket all the threads pulled out of the M10 bolt, and I had to replace that bolt with a stronger bolt as well. I contacted installation support and was told "there is a new retro-fit bracket" that will be shipped out to me (after providing proof of purchase); no apology or even offer to replace the bolts or any other interest in my experience other than sending out the bracket. One other item of note is that the top mounting point on the frame/engine mount is not very thick metal and appears to have some give to it; I'm not sure how that will hold up if there is a significant impact to the skid plate. I expected more from a big-name company.Update: I received the new brackets and added pictures comparing them with the old ones. The new ones are the non-tubular brackets. They give a lot more clearance and are sturdier on top. I also like the fact that you can bolt the bottom on with a nut instead of the thread that were built in to the tubular brackets. I'm on the fence about my rating because I would have given it four if the fitment had been this good from the beginning.

Overall this is a decent skid plate. The install is easy. However this will contact the exhaust if you have added exhaust spacers. At first I let this contact the exhaust and didnt get any rattles but I did get vibration in the Jeep. So I ended up grinding some and added washers to give additional clearances. I no longer have the vibration or rattles. It did take some trial and error to get the proper clearances though.

Fits well and mounts easily. Seems strong.
