Great read
It is slow in the first half but picks up to a great conclusion. Nicholas and Lydia have incredible courage to face the bullies in the town. This story reminds me of David fighting Goliath. Enjoy!

I am kind of walking around with a major book hangover, not knowing if my review will make sense. There's so many great things I want to say about this story.I have recently been on a "book high" haveing the last 8 or so books I have read been 4-5 star reads for me. But I wish I could give this book more stars!Through expert story telling the author takes you on a journey of faith, growth and love through the eyes of Lydia and Nicholas. Both are determined that their way is the right way. And I was instantly captured by the wit and banter of their dialog. It was just so much fun to watch the two main characters grow in their faith and learn how to more fully live out that faith.I really loved the message of how our faith calls us to reach out to the people Jesus did, despite what popular opinion or the rules of society dictate.I think part of the reason I love this book so much is because I am involved in a ministry that helps parents in crisis by providing care for their children. My eyes have been opened and I have grown in my walk by learning more about what it means to care for the "least of these". This touched me on a very personal level because my family has been facing similar attitudes because of the ministry.Because of that, I have been moved and encouraged by this book, not just as a form of entertainment, but as a spiritual encouragement. That is one reason I love Christian Fiction so much, is because I know God has brought into my life books from many different authors to help me grow in my walk with Him.This is definitely one of those books.I don't want to give away anything, but it was sooooooo good! Ugh, I am rambling. I borrowed this book from the library, but I know I am going to have to buy my own copy. I could go on forever, I think my family is sick of me taking about it already ;)Highly, highly recommend

Fantastic!
I'm still in a bit of a book fog after reading the last line of A Heart Most Certain. This book has so much more than meets the eye. Starting with characters are so real you feel like you can sit down and have a conversation with them, to a deep plot line that doesn't disappoint. This book is so much more than just another heartwarming love story. It is a story with purpose and a reminder to everyone that no matter where God has placed us that we have a job to do for him.I enjoyed Lydia's love for books and loved all the classic book-character references (Margaret Hale & Thornton - North & South, Lizzy Bennett & Darcy - Pride & Prejudice). I loved how Lydia's passion for books helped her find commonality with people that she came in contact with. I cheered for her as she grew as a person and found myself eagerly turning the page when things got difficult, hoping that she would continue to rely on her faith in God. The realization she came to toward the end of the book about how she viewed God, was very powerful.Nicholas mantra "who else will do it, if you and I don't" is a fantastic reminder to me that, God calls us to be his hands and feet, to do the hard things, to shine his light in the darkest place. It was refreshing to see both of the characters growth throughout the story. It's not all seriousness. There is laughter & fun, and the love story of two fantastic characters. This is a wonderful book and I'm happy to add this to my favorites shelf! I look forward to reading many more stories from Melissa!

Incredible book!
This book is amazing! It is so rich with truth, and believable and sometimes painful character growth. A Heart Most Certain deals with very real issues during a very tough time period for dealing with those issues. I was so impressed with both Nick and Lydia. They were both wonderful characters who had some flaws that needed to be dealt with and they did so in a realistic way. Change wasn't instant. It came about over time and through some real struggle as they wrestled with the truths that they were presented with and how they had previously been thinking and living. I loved that this aspect of this book was so real. I also appreciated Ms. Jagears' demonstration of God's love and grace through her characters and that reaching hurting people with that love can be difficult, but those people are so worth it. I also loved the dynamic between Nick and Lydia and seeing their relationship change and grow over time. Everything about this book was just so well done and put together. Such a great book and so worth the read in my opinion.

A Great Read
I really enjoy reading Melissa Jagears's writings. She is a very talented author. This novel, the first in her new series, delves into some really heartbreaking, gut-wrenching material. I don't give away book details because I don't want to mess anyone's read; but, suffice it to say, this novel is definitely going to make you look inward at your own self. I disliked greatly the main character at first. I thought she was vain and fake, which she was...so, I had to question myself about why I had such a negative reaction to the female lead in this book. Had to then go and pray and ask God for forgiveness. Now, aside from my own personal revelations, this novel is packed full of action. It's a great historical novel...some parts as gritty as the squalid, beat-down characters and settings. I learned a lot from this novel. The romance is sweet and tasteful. The Biblical references are apt, and smoothly included throughout the novel. And, the message is not heavy handed, but subtle and absolutely applicable to anyone today. This is a great read. I look forward to book #2!
