Does the job
Provides good support. Sizing is not shoe size but by ankle circumference. How to measure that is in the preview images for the product. It is true to size (size 9 inch ankle and the small fit great). You can wear it without socks but a sock underneath is far more comfortable. Be fairly careful lacing it up as it can be overly tight- but you will quickly realize it needs adjustment. You can wear shoes over it, but will need to wear the shoe looser than usual to accommodate it. It does take a few minutes to put on each time because the laces are too short to just loosen them like you do a shoe and so you are relaceing it every time. While you can buy longer laces, you would end up with excessive laces after the brace is on.

Really protects your ankle while working out or doing sports!
Forget using ace bandages, of the flimsy little ankle braces you find at your local pharmacy. This is a VERY effective brace that allows you to keep working out while still protecting your ankle. The first time I put it on, I definitely needed to follow the easy instructions. First you lace up the inner fitted area. The laces allow you to adjust your level of support. I lace them up pretty tight. Then there are two long, flat nylon straps that cross over your ankle, under your heel, and affix via velcro on either side of your ankle. They the final level of support is a wide band that you stretch snugly across the top of the brace, that holds all steadily in place. This wide band also affixes with velcro. Once you have put the brace on once or twice, it is easy to adjust it in 2 minutes or so. I have a recurring left ankle injury. I got tired of having to stop trail riding because I had to give my ankle more time to heal. Mounting the saddle using my left foot really aggravated the injury, even when I used a mounting block. What I needed was a brace that keep the ankle straight, and didn't allow it to roll to the outside where the damaged tendons are. I tried this brace, and it is perfect! I can mount and dismount safely. I can go on long trail rides, and my left ankle stays comfortable where normally it would be sore from the slight outward ankle one needs to keep one's foot in the stirrup as my leg curves around a full bodied horse. I can stand in the arena and do ground work with our horses, never worrying about keeping my ankle at the proper angle. I also wear it when I work out, practice yoga, or do speed walking. Now I am riding more, I am working with our horses more, and I am getting in more regular workouts. I do recommend wearing a sock that is high enough that it ends above the brace. By the way, I am a 5'7", small boned, wear a woman's size 8 shoe, and the size 'small' works great for me. I can use thick socks or thin ones, and the brace fits either way. When worn under boot length pants, it isn't even visible. This is a highly effective brace that really does protect my ankle when I am active! It was reasonably priced, and arrived very quickly. I have had no problems with the velcro unstitching. I wash the brace in a bowl of warm water with a couple of drops of laundry soap. It air dries quickly in the shower or on a line. I recommend it very highly.

Great brace
I tore two ligaments in my ankle. I have been rehabbing it and my PT recommended a figure eight brace as I Travel for work and tend to push myself too hard too quick.ProsStability, my ankle is not going anywhere. I wore this 5 weeks after the initial injury, with my ankle still swollen, surfing. There are stil some ways your foot can move it this thing that can be a little painful when surfing but nothing major. It’s comfortable in my footwear. It’s winter and I wear a lot of boots and I can still get my boots on even though I have wide calves. I do have to remove the thicker soles in that one shoe and put in a thin one so my foot doesn’t feel so constricted.Wet or dry. As mentioned, I both hiked and surfed in this thing and both times it was so great to have this.ConsIt can rub your skin if you are using it without a sock, like for swimming or with sandals. It’s not a slip in so you need to take a few mins to put it on before you head out.It doesn’t help with pressure pain. If stepping down causes pain, this does not stop that pain when walking.TipsThe Velcro is legit and will stick to any and everything. When not in use, immediately attach the VelcroWear a thinner compression sock on the injured leg. The compression sock helps with the swelling, but wearing thick socks in this thing make my toes feel constricted. So if you need thicker socks add an ankle sock on top of the brace...on the other foot wear a regular sock, looks weird, but trust me...When drying take laces out.Flex your foot upward when you strap this up, it gives it a stronger hold. On the side straps, there are finger holes, use your index finger to pull it tighter than you will with your hand.Buy laced boots for winter instead of zipper.

Top cuff strap too long
Bought this to heal up from a high ankle sprain. Followed the directions to measure the circumference 1” above the ankle and choose the sizing from there, in my case XL (measured just around 9.5” circumference). The brace is made up of 4 parts: the boot with laces, and 3 straps (elastic with hook and loop Velcro). The 3 straps are: 2 “vertical” straps (each side of the ankle) that go over the forefoot-> under the arch -> up to the side of the ankle; and a top horizontal crew cuff.It does take about 5-10 minutes to put on since the boot lacing is fitted. Upon first fitment, I kept it lightly snug - did not feel as much compression as a compression sleeve. The feeling is very light on the foot, but when I tested to roll side to side and crouched into a squat, it resisted my motion extremely well. This is an excellent design! However I’m returning this item because of the top cuff is too loose (when wrapped, the velcro hooks are about 1.5” beyond where the loops are). This means with extended use, the top cuff will begin to fray the nylon and eventually become less usable.

Excellent
Excellent ankle compression support. Completely aided my recovery from injury. It looks good, is well made and its slim fit makes it easy to wear within most footwear and it's completely discreet when wearing trousers and sport smart enough when wearing anything shorter. I've used various Shock Doctor products before... with repeated use, they do start to fray at the edges a bit and I imagine this will do the same... but don't let that put you off as they are robust enough and still remain effective. For effective recovery from ankle injury, I would definitely recommend this ankle support.
