The flap-style damper I had let a significant draft back into the house and in the winter also allowed condensation to form on the outside of the vent pipe in my basement. I installed the spring damper as close to the end of my vent pipe as possible (leaving the old exterior flap damper in place) and also added some pipe insulation on the exterior of the pipe near the wall penetration. No more draft or condensation! Make sure that you thoroughly clean the inside of the vent pipe where you plan to install this damper (I used the brush/rod/power drill system I have for cleaning my dryer vent). It slides into place and is held in by friction. The seal was good for me, but might not be so great if you try to slide it into a dirty pipe. This product is well built and easy to install. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a fantastic device that works. *by M***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 10, 2017* Hopefully the springs hold up but for now it works perfectly, blocking cold air from back drafting into my range top ventilator. I keep running my hand over the stove top to feel for that draft that isn't there any more. I check under the cabinet which at some points during the winter could work as a backup freezer, and no cold. Was easy to install.
