SLIDING VIOLIN MUTE

First time having this style of a mute. My only experience had been a wooden mute which is good for practice but seemed to dampened too much for performance. This one doesn’t mute nearly as much and thus was exactly what I was looking for. My violin has always sounded overly loud and depending on the type string the E would sound extra brash especially for church service. This type of mute has given my violin that mellow sound that I’ve been looking for.

This mute is not made correctly. If you actually manage to get it on your strings, it completely deadens any sound and makes playing impossible. I’ve used these kinds of mutes before so I know how they are supposed to work.

This is not a practice mute, but does enough for my purpose. It’s like an orchestra mute.

I’ve used slide wired mutes in the past, and accidentally left the last one I used on the violin I was renting when I upgraded. I finally wanted to buy one again because I have a concert coming up and it nearly broke my bridge!! I tried adjusting it a little to see if it would make a difference, instead I felt stupid for trying again. It goes on, but as soon as you slide it up it pulls the strings together. Definitely returning and do not recommend for anyone with a full size!

This will not fit on a full size violin - more like half size.

The mute works really well for its intended use. It is nice to use when I practice playing fiddle. It allows me to practice anytime without disturbing the peace.

Horrible horrible horrible!! I saw reviews saying it doesn’t actually fit a violin, but I tried it anyway. Do not buy this!!!! As soon as I got it on my strings my bridge immediately shattered. So not only can I not use the mute I purchased, but now I have to purchase a bridge!!
