## Description

A Structural Adhesive for Automotive Substrates Engineered to withstand much higher impact vs. traditional bonding adhesives, 3M Impact Resistant Structural Adhesive (IRSA) is excellent for true OEM-specified automotive structural applications. It adheres to properly prepared automotive substrates including mild steel, high-strength steel and automotive aluminum alloys vital as OEMs strive to achieve high strength in increasingly lightweight structures. Two-part epoxy adhesive is recommended for all weld-bonded and rivet-bonded joints when specified by an OEM. It provides an extended work time as long one hour and cures rapidly with heat (30 minutes at 80C/175F). Adhesive applies in a silver color and changes to purple as it cures, indicating when the process has begun. Impact Resistance and More 3M IRSA is designed to absorb collision energy forces and delivers increased torsional rigidity for OEM-specified automotive structures. It allows for spot-welding (form squeeze-type) in an uncured state, typically up to three hours after application. Properly applied adhesive will seal joints completely, and perform when exposed to very hot and cold temperatures. Its corrosion inhibiting formula delivers lifetime corrosion protection. The cured adhesive can also help decrease NVH (PDF, 325.12 Kb) in the vehicle. 3M Impact Resistant Structural Adhesive is available in 200 mL cartridges for smaller jobs, and in 450 mL cartridges for use with the 3M Dynamic Mixing System. About the 3M Dynamic Mixing System With the Dynamic Mixing System (DMS), 3M has created a method for mixing adhesives, sealers and fillers that saves time and helps ensure the proper mixing of two-part formulas every time. The system includes pre-loaded DMS cartridges and a series of DMS mixing nozzles, and works with a standard pneumatic applicator. Instead of premeasuring and premixing two-part products, technicians dispense the perfect amount of material, directly to the job, at the touch of a trigger. This eliminates the messy mixing process, reduces material waste and cleanup time, and helps ensure the quality and performance of finished work. 3M Impact Resistant Structural Adhesive in 450 mL cartridges is ready to use with a purple 3M DMS Mixing Nozzle, PN 55847. 3M recommends dispensing the adhesive with the pneumatic 3M Dynamic Mixing Gun, PN 05846. Review: works like a charm - great product
Review: Strong product that could replace welds in many cases. - Nice product. Dries super hard and grindable/sandable. Made my old sloppy joints on my 66 Mustang look much cleaner after replacement of firewall and cowl. I used this in conjunction with welding but it makes a wonderful joint sealer after the panels are welded up even if not used between the panels. It says to only use resistance (spot) welding, but I used plug welding and avoided the area of weld holes with the adhesive because it does burn a bit and liquifies if it gets too hot. Clamp or screw the panels all around to get them flush then weld. I think it's stronger than just welds. You can see similar products in comparison with spot welding on youtube. It has incredible holding power. I just wish it cost less. For my firewall and cowl I needed a little more than one tube, so what remains will be used on the floor pans. You can use it pretty sparingly (a thin bead) if welding along with the adhesive, and don't try to mig weld through this stuff as it splatters and makes for a poor weld.

**Q: I need this for a 17 foot project. Will this be enough?**
A: doesn't go far ... I used 2 tubes on a mustang in probably a 15ft span by 2 inches wide ... holds strong as welding but pricey !

**Q: When using it for body pieces, do you leave the primer on or use it on bare metal?**
A: The directions specifically state to use a 50 grit sanding disc to prep the surface to bare metal. You cover all bare metal with the adhesive so you get no surface rust.

**Q: Does this include any mixing nozzles?**
A: Yes, they came with two mixing nozzles.

**Q: What does smc compatible mean?**
A: SMC stands for Sheet Moulding Compound.  It's a composite of reinforcing fibers (typically fiberglass or carbon fiber) and a polyester resin that's used in a variety of products, including automotive applications.  SMC compatible means that this adhesives is capable of successfully bonding to SMC.

I patched some minor sub frame rust on my 1954 Belair. I cut new replace metal and clean the surfaces used the adhesive as to the instructions. Its been a few weeks driving the vehicle almost every day and so far so good. No breakdown of the metal patches or the adhesive.
