Naturejam Dried Epazote Leaves & Stems 1 Pound Bulk-100% Natural From Mexico-NOT SIFTED

After receiving the Epazote bulk stems & pieces I decided to grind and sift for cooking use. I ended up with a little over 6 ounces. This makes it easier to measure for cooking.

Did a detox and worked as needed.

Pay attention to the "NOT SIFTED" in the description - they mean it! This bag is full of dried sticks and stems. But if you are willing to sift through them yourself, or if you use the product in a spice bag or tea strainer, then all is fine. You definitely do not just want to put a bunch of this stuff in a pot while cooking and then have to spit out the sticks when you eat! The product is otherwise clean and has good flavor.The size of the bag does make it a great value unless you just cannot use it because of all the sticks and stems.

There are a lot of stems in it, and very big ones!If you're making tea, that doesn't matter much.And some people say the stems are edible in food. But I've found that even after cooking for half an hour in a pressure cooker, they're tough.So, I pick out a lot of stems by hand, and then rub the rest through a sieve.I weighed the stems and what didn't go through the sieve, and the total in the 1-pound package was 0.474 lbs of stems.So, there was 0.526 lbs of usable epazote spice in it.Using this info one can compare the price and quality of different brands of epazote.

I have ground up some of this product and I drink it in a liter of water once a day. Every time I use as little as a half of a teaspoon, I can feel tiny particles in my water. They feel like sand, and what also happens is that my lymph nodes on the side of my neck become extremely painful. Like my body is fighting off some sort of infection. What is in this stuff??

I got this for cooking, not for tea, so maybe my needs are a little different than some other people. My only real complaint about this is that they chop the stems up in such small pieces that it makes it next to impossible to get all of the hard woody stem pieces out before adding it to the dish you are making, even after sieving it.

Flavor is good, half is stems and a rock. They refunded me. Calculate the the cost like they taught in school for food that has bones, double the price of the product to allow for the bones, in this case for half of it being stems.
