Is there a "fail safe" variant of this strike?

Fail-safe and fail-secure are specific to the lock mechanism, NOT the access panel. Some strikes are convertible to either. This one is listed as "fail-secure" (locked with no power applied) only.

Can this be used with a standard home depot wood door?

This lock is very compact. I used this lock in an ordinary residential door casing. It did not fit directly into the pre cut hole but with very little work the hole can be enlarged to accommodate this lock. I would recommend the lock not only for function but price as well.

What kind of controller can I use if I want Alexa to control it?
