Do not hesitate
The short version: If your records are dirty (actual dirt, oil, fingerprints) you’ll need to clean them. This won’t help much. (It WILL help but wet cleaning is often the first step)The rest of the story....NOTHING gets dust and light debris off as easily or as well as this. It’s unbelievable. It removes the dust and leaves absolutely no residue or markings. It’s so good, I really don’t need to bother with cleaning brand new or sealed/played records. I unwrap the LP, use this only, and the vinyl is QUIET. Seriously. An earlier reviewer said use it like you’re cutting a pizza and THIS IS THE WAY. Letting the LP spin while holding the roller still doesn’t work nearly as well. It seems to collect more visible dust but using the pizza cutter method gets more of the smaller debris that you really hear. Your mileage may vary, but for me, the secret to success is: One swipe from dead wax to edge, turn record a few inches, another swipe, etc till you’ve gone around the LP one time. Then play. That record is now dust free, and ridiculously quiet, if it was quiet to begin with.As I said, this will not clean your records if they are dirty. This also will not get out pockmarks, scratches or other physical damage that makes your stylus go pop. But for the price/effectiveness ratio NOTHING is better than this.My ONLY wish is that it were wider so if you do want to hold it still while letting the record spin it would cover the entire side. Just use the pizza cutter method, and you’ll be shocked how much crap it takes off of your LPs.If you do have a record cleaning machine/routine and you encounter a particularly dirty used record, use this on it first to get off a lot of the surface dirt. You’ll probably have to rinse it off right after, but it really helps. Most of my vinyl is well cared for and I’d estimate I can dust off about 10-12 LP sides before I feel the need to rinse VB off. Bear in mind, I’m starting with clean or new records. When it’s time to clean the Vinyl Buddy, running it under the faucet for about 30 seconds and using your finger to clean it works just great. After about six months some of the stickiness starts to go away but it still seems to be pretty effective. You just lose some of that psychological satisfaction... when it’s new and more “tacky”, you feel like it’s working better. Compared to record cleaners and this overall expensive hobby of vinyl, they are cheap enough that even if I actually did have to replace it every six months I really wouldn’t mind. But so far, I’ve not felt the need.I keep three of them. An older one to get dirt off of very dirty use records that I get from the dollar bin… And then two that I alternate and use every time I play a side. (That’s the key... use it EVERY TIME YOU PLAY A SIDE). When one gets covered in enough dust I go and rinse it and let it dry out and switch to the other one.So So So recommended. A++++++

Record Collection Main Stay
Out of all the upgrades I have made to my record set-up, THIS product has been the only constant. I have been collecting for 7 years and this product has never failed me. Wash with water, let it dry, and it’s as good as new. I bought an anti-static brush alongside this product but that thing leaves bristles on my records, so this is the only thing that works for me.

Sticks to records and takes long to clean, but works wonders
It's so sticky that it sticks to the vinyl sometimes. This makes it difficult to clean while the turntable is on with an acrylic mat. The vinyl will stick to the buddy while the platter is still spinning, causing the bottom of the record to scrape.I found the best way to clean with this product with an acrylic mat is to manually follow the grooves while the turntable is off. And it does a Very good job at cleaning. The product reccomends to "clean every couple times". I've found it takes twice as long to dry as it is to use so sometimes I find myself flayling through the air to dry it faster.

An incredible little device that will bring life back to your vinyl records.
I have vinyl records going back at least forty years, and I have always taken care of them. I have not played the majority of them in thirty years, but I recently upgraded my turntable and sound system. Playing my old vinyls is like meeting old friends once again. I have always taken care of my records, mostly through the "discwasher" system. But this little gizmo has greatly upped my game. It's a bit like one of those paper lint rollers for clothes, except that you can refresh it (and it does not appear to lose its stickiness). The amount of lint, dust, and other junk this thing pulls out of the grooves is astounding, and most importantly, my old records sound fantastic and have a depth and presence I had not experienced before. I use a deerskin anti-static turntable mat and a record weight. I first use the vinyl buddy, then the Pfanstiel antistatic spray, which I smooth out with the discwasher pad; then I clean the pad with the little discwasher brush, and clean the record again with the discwasher fluid. For the stylus itself, I either use an antistatic brush and lubricant solution available on amazon from "my needle store" for more frequent uses or the OnZow ZeroDust stylus cleaner which is another amazing little gadget. The vinyl buddy can be rinsed off with plain water; I use a spot of mild detergent or hand soap. The result of this little ritual is hours of incredible listening with nary a pop or scratch. Highly recommended.

Works shockingly well!
I am surprised by how well this works! Obviously, I expected it to work or I wouldn't have bought it, but I was skeptical. How often do you see something advertised one way and it works completely ineffectively compared to what it said it would do?This device may be the best thing to clean records I have found! Cloths and cleaners may leave dirt in the grooves and not be 100% effective. I have the vacuum attachment that cleans records and that works really well, too!But the simplicity and effectiveness of this product really impressed me! I had a record that had collected a lot of dust over the years in my collection, even though it was in the sleeve. A few passes of this and the record looked, and played, like it was brand new! Obviously, it won't make a scratched record sound better, but it eliminates the possibility of pops or skips from dirt that is stuck in the grooves! This may be the next best thing to an ultra expensive deep cleaning device!
