He wrote and videoed about all kinds of diseases and disorders. Havent checked lately, but some of his archived videos were on, as of several months ago. Sorry I didnt read this particular book. I bought it and didnt read it. As I said, it must have been as good as all his other info and videos. His knowledge was superior to that of most conventional doctors. Review: Very informative. - This is very well written, easily understandable and interesting. I have been looking for something that would help beyond just a diet. I am 52 years old woman and am recovering from back surgery. I have checked out and tried many different diets without much success in losing weight. The Leptin Diet has research behind it, seems fairly easy to follow (the Five Rules) and doesn't seem to eliminate all fats, natural sweets and basically enjoyable foods. It would have been even a better value if it included example menus and a list of foods that contain good proteins, good carbs, and good fats. I am looking forward to resetting my metabolism and getting back to a healthy weight.

Byron Richards, the author, was an excellent nutritionist. Sadly, he passed away over a year ago. His website and supplement company still continues with his wife and other nutritionists. Very informative.

Effective, common sense
I accidentally happened upon this book. On a forum I frequent, one of the folks posted a very scientific explanation of leptin that was, frankly, over my head. But my curiosity was piqued, especially since I was, at the time, trying to lose a couple pounds. After doing my research on the subject, and coming across many articles on the subject that were over my head as well (I was *not* a science major!), I found that Byron Richards was supposed to have written a good book on the subject and in non-scientific terms, Mastering Leptin. I didn't want to pay for that book, so I cheaped out and bought this one. I just wanted to read about the basics, to see if I might be interested in the longer book. I didn't want to pay too much money for a book I couldn't understand! So, I bought this, and it was perfectly comprehensible and made such perfect sense that I found a way to apply these principles to my own life. That was about three weeks ago, when I was trying to lose five pounds. I've lost eight so far. And it's basically effortless, as long as you look at it properly. The 'diet' boils down to this: Don't snack, and plan your meals for at least 4 hours apart, though 5-6 is preferable. Also, give your body time to digest your food before bedtime (about 5 hours). There are also guidelines on what you should put on your plate (not too many carbs, a reasonable amount of protein and non-starchy veggies). And include a little exercise in your days. I almost knocked this down a star, because he's a little over the top about natural foods (beyond just plain eating organic). However, the principles of eating described in the book are just so... good that I didn't want to turn anyone off the book. Anyone who has a mind of their own can figure out what is or isn't going to work for them, personally. And common sense is all it takes to figure out if this plan is do-able for you. It's worked so well for me that, already, I can't imagine why I would grab a snack when my stomach wasn't truly empty. Just habit. A hard habit to break, but I feel so much better now! I've learned to distinguish between feeling 'snacky' and actually being hungry, with the help of this book. Good job.

Made my undiagnosed reactive hypoglycemia worsen.
I thought the book was interesting, and well written, but it clean' really give you a diet to follow, just guidelines. I got more information to complement the book on wellnessmama website. The problem is that it pretty much described my symptoms and I auto diagnosed myself leptin resistant and tried the diet, after weeks, I couldn't stand being so tired all the time and I didn't lose weight, so I continued to seek a diagnosis until I realized I have reactive hypoglycemia and everything I was doing for weeks made it worse. I don't think it was smart to try this without proper testing, or without even the mention of other reasons why people might be overweight and not able to lose the weight, before you start the diet.

It is a profound lost that the world has had in the untimely demise of Dr. Byron J Richards. This book is a stellar work, like all that he set forth to do. His family be acknowledged and commended for continuing his life's mission via Wellness Research. Please read this book. Everyone.

The Leptin Diet provides a very clear and easy to understand explanation of how we put on excess weight and, even more important, how to rid yourself of unhealthy fat without putting it back on again. Clear advice about what and when to eat it, starting with protein and low GI carbs at breakfast. Special emphasis on how to get rid of dangerous fat from the belly area. This is not a fad diet, and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Interesting reading. It talks about the chemical or hormonal reactions in our bodies that take place when we eat and the effects they have on our bodies and cravings. It discusses the importance of not only WHAT we eat but WHEN we eat to make the most of our bodies natural fat burning mode.
