Replacement Impeller for SUNSUN Aquarium Canister Filter (HW303A/HW303B) by Sun Microsystems

Perfect replacement for my SunSun Canister filter. It was super easy to replace.

My sunsun 404B was making a lot of noise. This completely solved The problem. works nice and quiet right now.

We looked everywhere for a replacement impeller for our Polar Aurora 525 gph canister filter, but the replacements make it very difficult without providing measurements, as they're technically for specific other filters. This one fit our other brand perfectly and saved us from having to replace the entire filter over one tiny part.

I just purchased a new Sunsun HW-704B filter that seemed to have a noisy impeller. I wasn't sure if the impeller was the problem or if my filter media was just too dense. Overall, the 704B was working well, but it was not quieting down after one week. On a hunch I ordered this replacement impeller and it was an exact match. After installation the filter noise and vibration decreased about 50%. Now my 704B performs well and is also relatively quiet. I am keeping the original impeller as a backup spare.

Apparently the shaft wears down after a couple years of continuous use. The extra clearance allows the magnet to bounce around and bang into the side of the housing continuously. The housing doesn't appear to be negatively affected, because after replacing the impeller, the filter is back to its original fairly silent noise level. We let it get to the point of obnoxiousness and instantly had audible relief after install. Obviously easy to install - the impeller is in the lid of the filter with a twist lock cap. The price is high for what it is - so minus one star for the value.

Unfortunately I must face the fact that my canister is beyond its time and just not worth putting time and money into it. Especially with what feels like poor ratio of high price for considerably low quality. The first impeller arrived broken, I had it replaced and while the second arrived in good condition it just broke after a few days of regular usage after thorough maintenance on the whole unit before installation. I honestly feel sunsun is decent on a budget at face value, but not so much in the long haul. Replacements get ridiculous just to get the most years out of it, parts seem to wear out easily and quickly even with regular maintenance. I guess it's better to get a whole new unit rather than trying to keep the old one going. The canister unit worked pretty well while it lasted but I'm just not up for gambling for a replacement impeller to last long enough.
