rounded part goes in front on forehead. the small clip should pop open when you bend it backwards. I was not able to get it to stay open and never could use it. my friend (I gave the veil and clip to her) was able to get the clip open

Yes, the fabric is soft, it does not stretch. I bought a white one and just right or enough to cover the head.
