Excellent Product for a Fantastic Price
I purchased this item after seeing competitors products in action (Invisible fence). My medium sized (75lb) dog is familiar to a bark collar so I figured he would be sensitive to this product as well. I used the collar with just a rock and also with the rock wired up with the additional blue wire because I needed a whole garden area protected from the dog. As the instructions say, it does not work well near metal objects (like my a/c unit)as it interferes with the signal so you have to move it away from items like that. At the highest setting, I get about a 6ft distance from the rock. The competitors was the same if not less. Then I hooked up the wire to the rock and encompassed an flower bed area with about 100ft of wire. Again the unit worked exactly as specified. They instruct you to set the unit at one of the higher settings when the wire is attached for the unit to work correctly. I did that and when my dog comes within about 3-4ft of the wire he receives the impulse from the unit and turns away to go somewhere else to relieve himself. As the manual states, this unit will not contain your dog. It is not strong enough for that. It does, however do the job its supposed to do- gently but assertively persuade your dog to relieve himself in another area of your yard. Best of all, this unit was ridiculously cheaper than its competitor and the batteries you need (D batteries and small hearing aid type batteries)are easily found at your local CVS, Lowes, Etc. The competitor makes their batteries specific to the unit so you are forced to by them from them (at a high price of course). All in all, this product does exactly what I wanted it to do- keep my dog from eating and urinating on my shrubs and flowers! Hooray!!!

Great product until it breaks
I'm so mixed about these things, on one hand you have a product that WORKS to keep my pets out of places I dont want them. Whats REALLY awesome is that you can string a regular old wire around your yard and connect the ends to a couple of screws under the battery plate and essentially make the entire wire a hot zone. This works so great for an the area that leads up to our Gate because the dogs will not go there and I do not have to worry about them running off into traffic. So whats wrong? I have had 3 collars break. The cap that holds the batteries in is made so cheaply I even had one broken on receipt. We has started taping the caps so they do not get lost. Whats worse don't expect any support from the company they have COMPLETELY ignored my last two support requests. Also the batteries are always dying in the collars OR the cap comes loose and then collars dont work. I wish someone would make a quality version of these.

Works fantastically for my stubborn dog who was already trained on an electric fence system
I don't know how well it would have worked if my dog hadn't already been trained that a high beep means you're about to get shocked and you should back away, just back away. But for my extremely stubborn Great Dane, this rock has been a godsend. We already had the YardMax system to surround about 3 acres of "yard," and it works perfectly on the setting where it continues to shock her no matter what distance the dog goes beyond the boundary (up to 15 seconds). She has learned that when she hears the beep, she's come too close to the boundary, and she just turns around. However, she couldn't keep herself out of the chicken run, because the compost pile is inside. I keep the chicken door open in good weather so they can free range outside their run, and my Great Dane could make herself really tiny and squeeze through the hole (about 18" x 24")! That was one determined dog, especially when I put something delicious on the compost pile!Enter the "rock." I set it for a range of about a 6' radius, and placed the rock right by the door to the chicken run. The next time she came towards the door, nose in the air, hoping to go in and snarf some goodies, she heard the beep beep beep of the collar (same collar works with both systems, so it's the same beep!), and she stopped dead in her tracks and turned around. Now she gives the chicken door a wide berth and just jealously watches the chickens dig through the compost pile.Don't worry, she gets lots of treats of her own!I've had this rock for over a month, and haven't had a battery issue so far. Still on the original batteries I installed (and I bought more in bulk from Amazon). Now I'm going to buy another one and attach wire to it to keep the dog out of the new pond my husband just dug by our front door. I want the field to go around the pond but not keep her away from the door, so I'll loop in the pond and put the setting at the lowest so there won't be very much area around the pond that she'll be kept out of.Couldn't be happier with this rock, for my purposes with my dog.

Saw immediate results with my two 60-pound dogs but the radius is nowhere near 8 feet
This zaps my two 60-pound dogs and they feel it ... and they haven't gone back in the area I placed the transmitter since. However, the radius on this thing is no where near a consistent 8 feet. My dogs had to pretty much get on top of the transmitter before it zapped them. But I have the perimeter of the zone marked with a tiny brick wall and I think they associated the zap with going inside the bricks (which is fine with me). If I didn't have the brick wall though, I don't think this would have been as effective. At it's best, I measured the radius to be 6 feet in one direction. In other directions I got as low as 2 and 3 feet. This was my second unit and I used brand new batteries, so I really just think this thing does not work as far as they say it does.In summary, this thing is way overpriced for the way it under-performs, but I think my dogs are smart enough to associate the zap with the little wall I have around the perimeter so I was able to get the desired results. If this unit was half the price and advertised to work at a radius of 4 feet, I would have given it 5 stars.
