The roller brush doesn't have an "off" setting so it kicks stuff out from under the vacuum. In addition, the suction has always seem to be a bit low. I just flipped it over to take apart the head and do some maintenance, and I found tons of dust packed in edges and cavities in the head, as well as a lot of large grains of dirt and salt (I live in NY, so I get salt tracked in in the winter time). The dirt and salt just slid out as if I was pouring out my pockets after being at the beach all day. This makes me think the vacuum has really low suction since it can't actually get the debris consistently to the vacuum nozzle at the side of the head. I haven't noticed any fray to my carpets. The brush does not have soft bristles. This vacuum does a great job on both carpet and hard surfaces and it is very easy to push around. It is plastic which makes it lightweight.
