Yes, there are openings on two of the legs to allow a headboard to be attached.

Can you attach a headboard?

Yes, it does allow for a headboard to be attached. The legs supporting the 'head' both have two slots each that will accept bolts / screws. When the frame is fully assembled, the first slot on each leg is approx 5 and 1/4 inches from the ground, and the second slot is 7 and 3/4 inches off the ground. The slots themselves are roughly 1/4 inch wide, and could accept a variety of bolt widths.

I am deciding between wooden slats or metal slats, can you tell me the pro and cons for each and which offers better support and is also quiet?

The metal slats click into the slots pretty easily. I'm using this as a day bed outside with a twin futon mattress on it and there's plenty of support and no noise.

Exactly how tall are the legs?

14 inch legs attached to base. The 16 inch bed skirt is perfect but the clearance for storage is 14 inch.
