Do rainbow sharks eat flakes?

Yes they are opportunistic eaters and will eat regular fish food when its readily available though it might be a good idea to get some algae discs just to add some variety to their diet

I have to put these sharks in my smaller tanks till they grow. Can I purchase 2 or 3 and be safe? as I read they are aggressive toward each other?

I have had 3 together for 5 years with no problems, so if you get multiples, give them plenty of hiding areas and I suggest getting them all at the same time as young fish, I think that's how they tolerate each other.. mine are 6"+

Do these go into a 20 gallon tank ?

yes I use the general ratio of 1 gal for every 1" of fish so 20 gal gets you 20" of fish
