If you have a hat that you want keep easily available in your car, and still off the seat or the floor, this is the real deal. It installs easily. The problem is that it doesn't work. Drop the hat in and it looks fine, until you start moving your car forward or hit a bump: then, the hat flips over backwards and lands on the floor or the back seat. This happens with Panama hats, felt fedoras and other medium brim hats. If you have a high crown, extremely wide curved brim hat, it _might_ work, but not for any hat I tried.Maybe if the arms were not so long, so the hat's brim would rest against the seat back, it might work better. That would make it take up less back seat space, too.
