After I take the almond out of the shell, Is it ok to put the brown almond in the machine or do I need to remove the brown skin first?

You just need to remove the hard shell, and the thin skin on the outside of the kernel can be left intact and the shelled almonds can be placed inside the machine! But! If the thin skin of the nuts is removed, the jam will be more delicate

Can it take whole almonds or do they need to be skinless slivers?

The skin needs to be removed, otherwise the peanut butter or almond paste will get husk residue mixed in.

Machine looks used. Should be new.

I would return it but I don’t think it would make it back in one piece - in the box it was sent to me. All corners were compromised. Machine looked used-clear plastic has scratch marks. If I had read reviews I would not have ordered.

Makes great peanut butter, but starts smoking at the outlet after a few minutes. Very dangerous to have this problem, would not recommend!!!
