The Downfall of a Beautiful Country
Our family was fortunate to spend a year living in Zimbabwe from mid-1990 through mid-1991. The Zim dollar was trading at about 4-6 to the usd at that time. Grocery shelves were well-stocked, people were happy and very friendly. We made many friends among both black and white Zimbabweans and felt safe traveling throughout the country. Sad to see political goals totally destroy a once vibrant country. Buying political support over economic improvements and helping the populace has left this country with nothing. During our time there, the largest bill was Z$20.00 which still had actual purchasing power. We have wept for the people of Zimbabwevand what they have lost.
