Superb print quality, fantastic illustrations and a thicker book than expected!
A beautiful graphic novel, pleasantly surprised with how long it is! Looking forward to diving into reading it, but from flicking through, all the pages are brilliantly crafted and all to an engaging, dopamine-producing level with stunning character design, spooky creatures and beautiful colour palates.

Charming and sweetly spooky
Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome is a cute graphic novel with a host of quirky characters and a simple but charming premise. Young witch Planchette moves into an old house in a new town only to find it filled with ghosts that are beyond being removed by her kitchen magic spells. In search of help she makes some new friends including a shy siren, a witch cast off by her powerful family because of her apparent lack of magic and another witch battling a curse. Together and with the help of their rather cute familiars they figure out what it will take to rid the house of its unwelcome spectral guests , they will have to help to solve the problems that are keeping them bound to this plane. This is the first in a planned series of graphic novels and it largely serves to introduce the characters and establish the relationships between them, and it succeeds in that objective particularly well. Each of the characters is distinctive in both design and personality, something that is helped by the very cute artwork throughout the book. While the plot is pretty simple it serves its function and has a good mix of humorous and emotional moments. This is a charming read , perfect for the spooky season, especially for anyone who doesn't want anything gory or graphic.I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

Cute and colourful, but story lacks depth
I stumbled across this graphic novel, not knowing that it had originally been released as a comic on the internet. It sounded quite cute, so thought that I would give it a go.The story follows Planchette, a kitchen witch who moves into a new house at the beginning of the tale. Her excitement is quickly quashed when she discovers that her new home is haunted, by a lot of different ghosts. So, she decides to try and find people who would be able to help her.As a quick read, between two other books, this was an okay read. I'm not completely sure who the target audience is though. The story was pretty basic, but the artwork, especially for the character Babs and her sisters, is pretty busty. The artwork definitely has its own style - it's very colourful and you'll notice that the characters' eyes change, depending on what is happening to them. The style of the artwork, and the colouring, would definitely appeal to younger readers, and the plot is pretty basic, so maybe I am way past the target market age band.An okay read, with some fun characters.

cute story
if you love plain and simple witchy stories, this one is for you! we follow the main character throughout the story to solve her haunted house problem, you would think “oh she’s a witch it’ll be nice and easy!” nope! there’s different types of witches and she happens to be one who loves food!
