Has anyone taken these off after  a year or so of use? Does it damage the paint? We are renters so I’m skeptical but love the concept.

Sorry, I have not tried removing mine yet.  However, if it helps you, when I installed the clock I took another reviewer's advice and only removed HALF (bottom half) of the paper from the sticky back side of each number before adhering it to the wall.  I am not a renter, but did spend a lot to paint the room I hung the clock in, so didn't want to risk it - just in case.  The numbers are very light and the adhesive is plenty sticky (especially on flat paint), so it's been working fine for going on a year now.  FYI:  This approach also helped a lot during the installation - made it easier to re-position the numbers until they were perfect.  BTW, I LOVE the result and get loads of compliments and so far the clock mechanism has been perfect too.  I'd say go for it!  Good luck!!

what are numbers made out of?

We purchased the mirrored clock. The numbers are made of foam. Then we put the mirrored numbers on top of the foam. There is a thin film that comes off the mirrored numbers. Honestly, when I opened the box I was surprised because they looked cheap and not well made. Then I realized that was what my expectation, but I should give it a try anyway. We are so glad we did. It looks absolutely amazing on the wall. the numbers stick very well. The company stands behind their products, too. We had received a broken number and they contacted us immediately after I left my review. After excellent communication, they sent us a new clock. So I changed my review to 5 stars. I was very impressed.  We get lots of compliments on our mirrored clock. If your purchasing the black clock, you might contact the company and ask what the numbers are made of. I would think they are foam and they supply black overlay numbers instead of the mirrored numbers.
