🕵️♂️ Unleash the detective in your students!
The Edvotek S-51 Whose DNA Was Left Behind? kit is designed for 10 lab groups, allowing students to engage in a thrilling DNA fingerprinting experiment. In just 45 minutes, they will compare simulated crime scene DNA with that of two suspects, enhancing their understanding of genetics and forensic science. The kit includes all necessary materials, making it an ideal choice for educators looking to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Budget introduction to electrophoresis when used with homemade electrophoresis unit
Used this for High School Biology Lab, it was a hit. It is a DNA simulation so only contains dye samples, no DNA. Information can be found on Edvotek's website. It worked well with homemade electrophoresis unit and multi 9V battery homemade power supply. We were able to run samples in provided buffer with homemade chamber and gel trays in a the space of a 90 minute lab period (after having prepped gels ahead of time). If you want to do the gel prep with the class, it would require time from an extra class. My class came prepared after having viewed two videos, one on gel loading and one on the science behind gel electrophoresis and DNA fingerprinting, and the class went very well. Make sure kids run the gel the right direction or they will waste their time.

Students really enjoyed it!
This lab really worked well. My students really enjoyed it--even the ones who often don't show much enthusiasm. The videos on Edvotek's website clearly demonstrate how the lab is to be done.
