So many reasons to love this reef fish book!
Somehow this book manages to cover just about every species of reef fish you can encounter in both Atlantic and Pacific reefs. In my opinion the incredibly detailed color illustrations actually work better for identification than photos. I also love that you can compare so many similar species on a single page. Concise descriptions stick to the main details and include the species range and ecology. Definitely worth the money!

Great informative book on tropical fishes
I bought this book since I am a volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia. This book is a tremendous resouce especially in the Tropical Diver Exhibit which has many species of tropical fish. It is helpful in identification and lists the fish by scientific as well as common names. I would highly recommend this guide for fish identification, and many of the volunteers use this guide as their resource as well.

Very helpful for identifying fish
I bought this book to help identify fish we saw while scuba diving. Many, many quality drawings of fish make it easy!

Helpful and compact!
I love this compact and helpful little book. I shopped around a BUNCH before buying, and I feel confident I landed on the right book. I could easily spot my fish from the Maldives and the Red Sea!

Disapointment
I am engaged in a detailed project involving over sixteen hundred video clips taken during a diving career. Many species are not known to me, or I have simply forgotten their names. So, I ordered Coral Reef Fishes. I expected a book showing accurate photographic examples of 2,500 species. What I received was page after page of artists' impressions, many of which I know to be inaccurate. There are also some glaring ommissions of fishes that are not particularly uncommon in the Indian Ocean and a plethura of sketches of fishes I have never seen in many hours underwater. I have many other books on the subject, each using photographic examples. Leiske Myers' book is a huge disapointment.Brian Leeson. France. 9th October 2012.
